LawVu launches Lens to provide legal teams visibility into contract law
New Zealand-based LawVu Ltd., a legal artificial intelligence startup, today announced the launch of Lens, an AI contract analysis tool that gives in-house legal teams visibility into risks and obligations in paperwork. The company embedded the new product within its LegalOS service, which it calls a legal operating system for legal teams.
“Most AI tools in legal only see a small piece of the picture, so they overlook important details or need a human to double-check their work,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Sam Kidd.
Lens supports numerous use cases, including flagging customer contracts that could renew on unfavorable terms and missed service levels that could trigger credits, refunds or termination. It can help identify contracts that require consent, allow termination or impose new obligations on involved parties. It can also help pinpoint customer commitments and risks after events such as data breaches or changes in law, and how delays or noncompliance could lead to damages or penalties.
“Lens is different because it works with the structured legal data each customer has built up inside their own LawVu LegalOS, so insights are grounded in their organization’s own work,” Kidd explained.
The company said Lens builds on a previous platform update in June that built in AI-powered intake, drafting and legal work automation. This gave in-house legal teams AI capabilities and the ability to access and build on managing the entire process from legal artifacts, spend and knowledge work on one platform. Since then, the company has continuously updated the platform.
Litify LLC, another legal AI platform, released its State of AI in Legal Report in February, revealing that the legal industry is undergoing rapid change, with AI adoption surging to 78% in 2025, up from 23% in 2023. A majority of respondents still rely on general-purpose AI tools like OpenAI Group PBC’s ChatGPT, Microsoft Corp.’s Copilot and Google LLC’s Gemini. Despite high adoption, fewer than 50% of legal professionals said they received sufficient AI training.
Legal platforms such as LawVu stand out from general-purpose AI model providers such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini because they are purpose-built for the legal profession. Although, Anthropic PBC did launch a Claude plugin for legal practice.
The company’s strongest differentiation from generalized agentic models on the market is that LawVu embeds into existing customer environments where contract matters exist. Lens is an additional contract analysis system that does not require customers to assemble separate repositories for every review.
The company noted that it reduces outside counsel costs by making it easy to extract relevant provisions from hundreds of documents into structured tables. That way, external parties can review exceptions instead of every contract.
Finally, LawVu built Lens on the same security foundation as the rest of the platform and LegalOS, with regulatory and auditability compliance. The company added that customer data remains the customer’s property and is never used to train LawVu’s own models, giving legal teams AI power without compromising data privacy and safety.
