# Kazakhstan to speed up AI rollout across transport sector

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov reviewed the implementation of the President's instructions on digitalizing Kazakhstan's transport sector, [Qazinform News Agency](https://qazinform.com/) cites the Government.

During a visit to the Ministry of Transport's Situation Center, Bektenov was briefed on a range of digital and IT solutions being rolled out across Kazakhstan's road, rail, and aviation sectors, including the National Video Surveillance System, e-Joldar, Smart Cargo, Q-Gate, QazETA, Echelon Alpha, Kinetix, and Trip Optimizer.

In the road sector, the National Video Surveillance System brings together data from cameras, weight-control systems, and toll infrastructure. With the introduction of artificial intelligence, the system is expected to move beyond detecting violations to analyzing traffic conditions, predicting risks, and helping prevent road accidents.

Another digital tool, e-Joldar, was launched around two months ago to monitor road conditions, the quality of construction materials, and repair spending. More than 41,000 km of national roads have already been digitalized, with plans to extend coverage to Kazakhstan's entire 185,000-km road network by the end of the year.

The Smart Cargo platform, meanwhile, provides end-to-end online tracking of international freight through a single-window system. By integrating data from 58 information systems, the platform now enables 100% cargo tracking, while speeding up border clearance by 30% and cutting waiting times for carriers tenfold.

Digital solutions are also being introduced at Kazakhstan's airports. Q-Gate biometric terminals can verify passengers using facial recognition and passport data in 15-50 seconds, four to five times faster than conventional checks. The QazETA platform, described as an "e-Gov for foreigners," allows visa-free travelers to apply online for electronic authorization 72 hours before entering Kazakhstan.

In aviation, the AI-powered Echelon Alpha platform is being used to assess transit potential, model route networks, and analyze passenger demand, helping identify around 30 promising routes so far.

The railway sector is also adopting new digital technologies. KinetiX enables contactless diagnostics of rolling stock, cutting inspection times at stations by 30% and reducing manual measurements by 70%. Trip Optimizer, meanwhile, helps automate train operation by taking into account track conditions, train weight, and speed limits.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the sector's gross output has tripled over the past five years, exceeding 14 trillion tenge. During the same period, 5,000 km of railway tracks and 5,000 km of roads were repaired, rail transit reached 33 million tons, and road freight volumes tripled.

Further digitalization is expected to support the sector's continued growth. Over the next three years, Kazakhstan plans to build 2,200 km of new railway tracks, increase transit volumes to 77 million tons, and quadruple seaport capacity. Domestic road freight is also projected to rise from 353 million tons to 590 million tons by 2040.

Bektenov stressed the importance of accelerating digital transformation across the transport sector.

“President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has identified the further development of a digital services state as a priority. Digitalization and artificial intelligence must deliver tangible benefits to citizens, businesses, and the state. The Government's task is to accelerate the adoption of effective AI solutions across all sectors of the economy. I instruct that the transport sector transformation projects presented today be rolled out nationwide as soon as possible,” Bektenov said.

The Prime Minister also instructed authorities to strengthen the integration of information systems across the transport and related sectors to improve safety, reduce processing times, and optimize costs.
