Judge Lee denies attorneys’ fee to Google after Cengage, Hachette withdraw motion to intervene. But Judge expresses concern w/ filing new suit “3,000 miles away” from ongoing suit v. Google

Judge Eumi Lee of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted the unopposed motion of publishers Cengage and Hachette to withdraw their motion to intervene in In re Google Generative AI Copyright Litigation, but denied Google's request for attorneys' fees. Judge Lee expressed concern that the publishers filed their new case, Hachette v. Google, 3,000 miles away, a tactic that will duplicate efforts and waste judicial and party resources, and noted the case might be transferred to the Northern District of California.
