AI Delegation Is Not Static, “Quality” Is Fluent, and Your Name Is Attached to It #
An AI workflow that still produces plausible output is not necessarily still working. It may only be failing in ways nobody has noticed yet.
Let me use an example: A product team starts automating its Friday stakeholder update three months ago. The model drafts from the Jira board, the workflow owner reviews the draft, and it ships. It works. Now, the review that initially took five minutes takes five seconds. The automation owner recognizes the format, skims the opening, and approves it. (We all know what “good” looks like, right?) Embarrassingly, the automation just told an enterprise prospect that a security feature is in production. No application code changed. Nobody touched the prompt; it’s just a descoped feature with a stale ticket title that survived in the Product Backlog, and a change in model behavior (another of the frequent model updates) combined into a false update for an important prospective customer. The output stayed fluent, plausible, and on-brand. That made five seconds feel like enough review. When that update reaches a prospect, nobody calls it a model problem. They call it your automation, and you get to explain a sentence you never wrote.
Agile teams inspect their work in Retrospectives. However, few assign anyone to inspect whether delegated AI work still deserves the team’s trust. The AI Delegation Audit supplies that missing inspection: 45 to 60 minutes, monthly or every other Sprint, with a named owner and a slot on the calendar. Four checks structure it:
- Output and source drift
- Model fit
- Reversibility
- Category creep
It requires no new platform, but it does require an owner, workflow evidence, and decisions the team is prepared to revisit.
