[Trinity Audio](//trinityaudio.ai)player ready...Knicks owner James Dolan boasted triumphantly that [the Knicks will go to the White House](https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/06/18/knicks-accept-invitation-to-visit-trump-at-white-house-dolan/) to celebrate their [NBA championship](https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/06/13/new-york-knicks-win-first-nba-championship-since-1973-in-photos/) win with Queens native [President Trump](https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/06/08/trump-visit-to-knicks-nba-finals-security/). But the championship series most valuable player indicated [that visit](https://www.mediaite.com/media/sports/ny-knicks-star-jalen-brunson-says-white-house-visit-still-up-in-the-air-despite-team-owner-accepting-trumps-invite/) is no slam dunk.

“We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted,” Dolan told WFAN New York last week after the Knicks won their first title in 53 years.

Dolan called Trump a friend he’s known for 30 years and was glad to host him for the third game of the Knicks five-game series against the San Antonio Spurs. It was the only game between the teams the Knicks lost. [No other president](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/49004408/trump-becomes-first-sitting-president-attend-nba-finals-game) has attended an NBA Finals games. Dolan said the details for a White House visit were still in the works.

New York magazine reported that Knicks star Jalen Brunson hadn’t discussed that game plan with his teammates prior to Dolan’s announcement.

“But as a team, we’ll discuss it and we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” [Brunson said](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/jalen-brunson-interview-new-york-knicks-championship.html) in an interview published Wednesday.

No NBA champion has visited the White House during either of Trump’s presidencies.

Brunson’s backcourt teammate Josh Hart has been critical of Trump on social media. The shooting guard called Trump “[a dumbass](https://x.com/joshhart/status/1300791375525371904?)” in 2020 and called for him to be [booted from the White House](https://x.com/joshhart/status/1325112802407804931?) following his re-election defeat.

The Knicks organization couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
