Is ChatGPT down for you? Here’s what’s going on (Update: Fixed)

OpenAI reported that ChatGPT and Codex experienced higher error rates than normal on September 3, 2026, with mitigation steps implemented and the outage resolved by 1:24 PM ET. The issues followed separate outages affecting Anthropic's Claude and xAI's Grok the same day.

The company has already managed to look into the issue, and implemented mitigation steps. Hopefully, that means that everything is already on the road to recovery, but engineers are still keeping an eye on the situation.
