Introducing AI Kill Switch: Taking Control When AI Agents Go Rogue

CrowdStrike introduced AI Kill Switch in CrowdStrike Falcon Guardian, a control that directs connected AI gateways to block access to the AI models powering agents' decisions and actions. The Falcon AI Gateway is now generally available in Falcon Guardian and is included at no additional cost, and CrowdStrike said it will extend AI Kill Switch beyond gateway enforcement to coordinated containment across endpoints, cloud environments, SaaS applications, browser sessions and agent identities.

As organizations deploy increasingly autonomous and interconnected agents, the potential agentic blast radius grows. A single compromised or misaligned agent can trigger a chain of actions spanning credentials, applications, files, and enterprise systems that create consequences extending far beyond its original task. Traditional security approaches weren't designed to understand these behaviors, much less intervene at the speed agents operate. Security teams need more than alerts and investigations. CrowdStrike is introducing AI Kill Switch, a foundational security control for the agentic era, now available in CrowdStrike Falcon® Guardian. AI Kill Switch: An Agent Circuit Breaker Security teams activate AI Kill Switch in Falcon Guardian, which directs connected AI gateways to block access to the AI models that power agents' decisions and actions. The AI gateway can either be the Falcon AI Gateway, now generally available in Falcon Guardian, or a third-party AI gateway should teams want to use their existing infrastructure to rapidly block agent access. Falcon AI Gateway provides a CrowdStrike-native alternative to third-party gateways for enforcing AI Kill Switch. Included with Falcon Guardian at no additional cost, it extends AI security to applications and workloads beyond direct endpoint sensor coverage, including unmanaged environments. Falcon AI Gateway centralizes AI model access, security policies, credential management, and usage and cost controls within the CrowdStrike Falcon® platform. Disrupting an agent's AI access is only the beginning. Comprehensive containment means controlling the agent's actions and system access wherever it operates. AI agents operate across endpoints, cloud environments, SaaS applications, browsers, and enterprise identities, often spanning multiple environments in a single chain of activity. When an agent goes rogue, stopping it shouldn't require security teams to investigate and respond separately in every environment. CrowdStrike's vision is one AI Kill Switch coordinating response across multiple enforcement points. This will bring together the security capabilities of the Falcon platform and its broader ecosystem to contain rogue agents wherever they operate, including: Endpoint agents: Terminate rogue agents and associated processes directly on affected endpoints and prevent them from restarting. Cloud agents: Contain or terminate compromised agents operating in cloud environments. User and agent identities: Leverage CrowdStrike Falcon® Next-Gen Identity Security to revoke agent permissions at runtime and restrict access to enterprise resources. SaaS agents: Extend containment through CrowdStrike Falcon® Shield to restrict or terminate agent activity within SaaS environments. Browser sessions: Leverage CrowdStrike Falcon® Seraphic® Enterprise Browser to terminate sessions and disrupt unauthorized activity through web applications. This evolution will enable increasingly targeted containment so security teams can stop individual rogue agents or groups of agents with surgical precision while minimizing disruption to business operations. CrowdStrike® Agent Graph connects AI intent to downstream execution, revealing what an agent was asked to do, what it did, and which systems or resources were affected. This context helps security teams understand the threat and determine where to intervene. CrowdStrike Charlotte Agentic SOAR provides the no-code security orchestration, automation, and response SOAR capabilities to coordinate enforcement across the Falcon platform, enabling automated AI Kill Switch workflows triggered by AI-specific detections or risky agent behavior. Rather than responding to isolated events through disconnected tools, security teams will be able to coordinate containment across the agentic attack surface.
