August 13, 2026, (Inside AI) — IIT Roorkee has launched a four-month postgraduate certificate programme in Building AI-Powered Business Applications. The course is designed by the institute's iHUB DivyaSampark and targets working professionals who want to build practical AI solutions without coding.
The programme teaches no-code approaches, AI agents, and intelligent workflow automation. It is open to all graduates or diploma holders with at least three years of work experience. Prior coding experience is not mandatory.
The launch comes as organisations struggle to move beyond basic AI adoption. A McKinsey Global Survey on the state of AI in 2025 found that 88% of organisations have incorporated AI tools into everyday work. Yet implementing and scaling AI remains a persistent challenge.
An IDC report titled Skills, AI and the Enterprise highlighted critical shortages in implementation and scaling skills. IIT Roorkee designed this certificate to close that gap for business professionals.
Participants will work with more than 15 AI and automation tools. These include ChatGPT, Perplexity, NotebookLM, Dify, Flowise, n8n, Make, and Airtable. The curriculum also covers Generative AI, Agentic AI, responsible AI, governance, security, and deployment readiness.
The programme demonstrates how AI can be applied across research, reporting, operations, collaboration, and decision-making workflows. It is delivered through live online weekend sessions, with three-hour classes on Saturdays and Sundays.
The total fee is Rs 1,09,000, exclusive of GST. Participants who complete the programme receive an e-Certificate from iHUB DivyaSampark, IIT Roorkee.
Why no-code AI skills now define business competitiveness #
No-code AI platforms have shifted from novelty to necessity. Tools like n8n and Flowise let non-engineers build automation pipelines that once required software teams. This programme formalises that shift for Indian professionals.
The focus on AI agents is especially timely. Agentic AI systems can plan tasks, call tools, and execute multi-step workflows with minimal human oversight. Business leaders who understand these systems can deploy them faster than competitors still stuck in pilot phases.
IIT Roorkee's move mirrors a broader trend in executive education. Top institutions are moving beyond awareness-level AI courses toward hands-on, tool-specific training. The inclusion of governance and responsible AI signals that adoption without oversight is no longer acceptable.
The weekend format targets employed learners. This is not a full-time academic programme but a practical upskilling route for mid-career professionals. The three-year work experience requirement filters for participants who can immediately apply lessons in their organisations.
What the programme does not solve #
The certificate addresses skill gaps but not organisational barriers. Scaling AI also requires data readiness, change management, and executive buy-in. A four-month course cannot fix fragmented data pipelines or legacy IT systems.
The fee of Rs 1,09,000 plus GST places the programme beyond reach for many early-career professionals. While no-code tools lower technical barriers, financial barriers remain for smaller firms and individual learners.
IIT Roorkee has not disclosed placement support or industry partnerships for this certificate. Without clear employer recognition, the return on investment depends heavily on how participants apply the skills in their current roles.
The programme is one of several AI-focused certificates emerging from Indian institutes. Its differentiation lies in the no-code, tool-heavy curriculum rather than theoretical depth. Whether that translates into measurable career advancement remains to be seen.
