"Hey Siri." "Okay Google." "Alexa."
I kept asking myself: why?
Your ears don't wait to be called to hear. Your brain doesn't wait to be called to remember. So why should AI?
That question became Karl.
What Karl Is
Karl is an AI that listens without being called.
No wake word. No button. Just presence.
What it does:
Listens in the background. Always.
Remembers everything. Forever.
Opens apps, makes calls, sets reminders.
Privacy first. Everything stays local. No cloud.
The idea: Your brain is for thinking. Karl is for remembering.
The Problem with Wake Words
Every major AI system follows the same architecture:
Wake word → Activation → Response → Forget
This model isn't just inconvenient. It's a privacy risk. Your conversations go to the cloud, stored on servers you don't control, accessible to companies you don't trust.
And for what? So AI can forget you the moment the session ends?
What I Built Instead
Karl takes a different direction.
No cloud. No data selling. No compromises.
You never have to repeat yourself.
Not a tool. A presence.
What This Feels Like
You know that moment when someone remembers something you told them weeks ago? When they bring it up and you think, "Wow, they actually listened"?
Karl feels like that. Every day. Every conversation. Forever.
Why This Matters
The AI industry is at a crossroads. The cloud-centric model is showing its cracks. Developers are building local AI solutions because simple tasks don't require massive cloud data centers.
As developers, we should be asking: "What if AI was designed to serve you — not to track you?"
Karl is my attempt to answer that.
