Excited to announce that the CAD rendering tool that I've been working on now supports STEP rendering. My goal was to make the fastest open source rendering tool available for agentic CAD, which seems to have been accomplished: look is 3x faster than OCCT for the model shown!
- This was an enormous undertaking because I had to massively refactor the existing truck library, which provided a very good foundation but was very incomplete. I took truck from rendering 60% of complex models on average to 99.9%.This required a ton of deep computational geometry that I used agents to derive and implement in truck. I barely know any computational geometry or rust so it's crazy that this was effective. But it was! I used ChatGPT to do the math and deepseek v4 flash to write the code.Look is a model rendering tool designed to help agentic cad systems render models as quickly as possible.Look is far from complete - it doesn't have quite as much coverage as OCCT or Parasolid, but most models will fully render and practically all but the most complex parts will be cohesive enough for rendering accurate images
