I got tired of setting up the same Python project over and over

A developer built Spawn, an open-source Python CLI that automates repetitive project setup tasks such as creating folders, initializing Git, setting up virtual environments, and installing dependencies. The tool supports multiple project types including backend APIs, AI chatbots, RAG systems, and MCP servers, and aims to streamline the workflow for developers.

Create the folders. Set up src/ and tests/ . Initialize Git. Create the virtual environment. Install dependencies. Set up Ruff, pytest, Docker, CI... And then finally, after all that: start actually building the project. 😭 So I built Spawn . It's an open-source Python CLI that turns project setup into a single flow: pip install spawnio spawn create You can choose what you're building, pick the framework and extras you need, and Spawn generates the project foundation for you. It currently supports things like: 🐍 Backend APIs 🤖 AI Chatbots & Agents 📚 RAG systems 📊 Data projects 🔧 CLI applications 🔌 MCP servers 📁 Custom project structures It also handles Git, uv, dependencies, dev tooling, and more. I'm putting this out because I don't want Spawn to just be my idea of a useful developer tool . I want to know what developers actually want from it.
