Huawei Technologies unveiled its Ascend 960 SuperPoD computing cluster and an upgraded UnifiedBus interconnect technology at the Huawei Connect 2026 conference in Shanghai on Thursday, saying the combination of UnifiedBus and its Hi-ONE optical system can connect as many as 4,000 processors. The Shenzhen-based company introduced near-packaged optics (NPOs) into its SuperPoD architecture for the first time, a placement structure it says enables higher speeds and lower energy use, as part of its push to build advanced AI systems despite US semiconductor-related restrictions. Huawei's Ascend 950 SuperPoD was rolled out commercially last year.
