# Huawei showcases a 7.2Tbps near-package optics module for AI infrastructure

Huawei has showcased what it calls the industry’s first 7.2-terabit-per-second near-package optics (NPO) module for AI infrastructure.

The module combines 36 channels operating at 200 gigabits per second each. Near-package optics places optical components closer to switching chips, reducing signal loss and power consumption as AI clusters connect more processors. Huawei said the product is still in development and that volume production will depend on supply-chain and manufacturing readiness.
