HP introduces the OmniBook Ultra 16 and OmniBook X 14, HP’s first laptops featuring Nvidia RTX Spark. The chip is designed to combine local AI agents, content creation, and gaming in a portable device.
HP announced the new devices during the IFA trade show in Berlin. With the new OmniBook Ultra 16 and OmniBook X 14, HP is making the move to Nvidia RTX Spark, following competitor Lenovo. The new devices target developers, creators, gamers, and those who want to work with AI models locally without having to rely entirely on the cloud.
CPU and GPU in one #
Nvidia RTX Spark is a chip platform that, according to Nvidia, combines personal agents, advanced content creation, and gaming performance into a single architecture. It is built around Nvidia’s full AI platform but adapted for thin laptops with long battery life and compact desktops. With this, Nvidia aims to bridge the gap between powerful workstations and portable PCs.
The platform is intended to allow users to run larger AI models locally, including open-source and open-weight models, without constantly relying on cloud infrastructure. According to HP, this should increase iteration speed when building AI applications.
OmniBook Ultra 16 for heavy workloads #
The OmniBook Ultra 16 is the most powerful model in the new line, targeting developers and creators running heavy AI workflows. Configurations go up to 128 GB of shared memory and up to 1 petaflop of FP4 AI performance, which HP says enables larger models and more complex workflows. Additional heat pipes and two ultra-thin fans are included to support sustained AI loads.
Additionally, the laptop features a 16-inch 3K OLED display and quad speakers. The 99 Wh battery lasts up to seventeen hours, with fast charging up to fifty percent in about thirty minutes.
OmniBook X 14 for on the go #
The OmniBook X 14 brings the same RTX Spark to a more compact and lightweight format. The device is aimed at those who switch between productivity, content creation, and entertainment, featuring local AI agents and RTX graphics cards in a portable design. A customized rear thermal architecture is designed to maintain performance without sacrificing portability.
This model also features a 14-inch OLED screen. The battery lasts up to fifteen hours and supports fast charging via a 140W USB-C adapter, reaching a fifty percent charge in approximately thirty minutes.
In addition to the two laptops, HP is working on the OmniDesk, a compact desktop that also runs on RTX Spark. It is designed to keep long-running AI agents and tasks active even when the user is not at the device. HP will announce more details about this device at a later date.
Prices not yet known #
The OmniBook Ultra 16 and OmniBook X 14 will be available this fall. HP has not yet announced specific pricing. With this expansion, HP aims to further strengthen its portfolio of AI PCs against competitors who are also focusing on local AI processing.
Following IFA, it remains to be seen when the first Nvidia RTX Spark laptops will actually appear. Despite the promising claims, the chips will still have to prove themselves in terms of both performance and software compatibility. The fact that both HP and Lenovo have not yet dared to attach prices or availability to the devices raises some questions about the supply of the chips.
