The setup requires pairing the browser with the desktop once, running Node.js 20 or later for a source build, and keeping the desktop Vault unlocked; the desktop remains the source of Vault data and checks the requesting site's domain against the saved login, requiring HTTPS for ordinary websites.", "body_md": "You can use a saved login without copying its password into each form. The Off Grid AI extension can request a matching login from the unlocked Vault in OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop). Pair the browser once, then choose the entry for the website you are using.\n\n**What would you like to do with Off Grid AI?**\n\nHave a feature or use case you would like us to support? Create or open your desktop Vault, store the login with the correct website address, and unlock Vault in OGAD. The extension cannot unlock it by accepting your master password inside a web page.\n\nThe browser link uses the approved desktop pairing. The desktop remains the source of Vault data. This setup does not require a cloud password service, and you do not need an AI model to fill a stored password.\n\nThe extension needs **Node.js 20 or later** for a source build. It is not listed in the browser stores in this setup. Downloading the source and dependencies needs internet.\n\n```\ngit clone https://github.com/off-grid-ai/browser-extension.git\ncd browser-extension\ngit checkout 970fec49e2a630a3e1f419c1fc86df241891d40c\nnpm install\nnpm run build:chrome\n```\n\nIn Chrome, open `chrome://extensions`, enable **Developer mode**, select **Load unpacked**, and choose `dist/chrome`. Start OGAD and select a downloaded local text model. Open the extension from the toolbar. Its default desktop connection is `http://127.0.0.1:7878/v1` on the same computer.\n\nFor shared chats, desktop tools, or Vault, open the extension's **Settings > Desktop** and select **Pair with desktop**. Check that the six words match the dialog in OGAD, then approve there. A running gateway and an approved pairing serve different purposes.\n\nThe pinned [extension source](https://github.com/off-grid-ai/browser-extension/tree/970fec49e2a630a3e1f419c1fc86df241891d40c) includes the browser connection used here. Later source changes can alter the setup.\n\nUse an account you control for this check. If the site uses a multi-step login, you may need to move to its password page before filling again. A filled form is not a completed login; the website still handles submission and authentication.\n\nThe desktop checks the requesting website against the saved login's domain. It requires HTTPS for ordinary websites; loopback development addresses have a separate allowance. This prevents a matching-looking page on another domain from simply receiving the same secret.\n\nCheck the address bar before filling. A title or logo is not enough to identify a site. If a login is absent from **On this site**, inspect its saved URL and the current page instead of weakening the boundary.\n\nA company may use a different sign-in domain from its main website. Store the actual approved sign-in address. Do not add a domain only because an error message asks you to do so.\n\nThe reviewed desktop link supports logins and secure notes in this browser workflow. It does not mean every desktop Vault type, such as a file or API key, is available to a website.\n\nThe extension needs the desktop connection and an unlocked Vault. If the desktop locks, the browser view stops retaining the unlocked result. Open OGAD to unlock again when needed.\n\nKeep your master password in the desktop unlock flow. Browser pairing words confirm the connection; they are not a replacement for Vault unlock. You may need to complete both steps during the first setup.\n\nCheck the current domain, HTTPS, paired state, and desktop lock state. Then check whether the form has visible username and password fields. A custom site control or embedded cross-domain form can behave differently from a simple login page.\n\nManual copy from the desktop Vault remains an alternative. That puts the secret on the system clipboard, so inspect clipboard history and sync settings before using it. Filling directly into the right form avoids that manual copy step when the site supports the workflow.\n\nChanging a saved password does not change the real account password. Use the website's password-change process, then update Vault with the accepted new value. If the website rejects a stored value, first confirm which account and login page you are using.\n\nThis guide covers **OGAD beta 0.0.55-beta.114**. The [release](https://github.com/off-grid-ai/OGAD/releases/tag/v0.0.55-beta.114) and [build record](https://github.com/off-grid-ai/OGAD/actions/runs/37334426829) identify the desktop version and its included Pro code.
