The viewpoints of children depend on their age, [gender](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/gender), perception skills, susceptibility to peer influence, and familiarity with the AI tool they are using.\n\n## Vulnerability to AI Misinformation\n\nCertainly, it’s not just children who are fooled by AI-generated text and images. Yet there are areas in which children may be uniquely vulnerable. Research explains.\n\nMd Uzzal Talukder (2026) examined the impact of AI-generated misinformation on children.[i] Recognizing the ability of AI to create highly realistic misinformation, he notes that children’s vulnerability to deceptive content is fueled in part by reliance on surface cues and limited critical literacy, exacerbated by algorithmic suggestions and sharing with peers. Noting that educational and regulatory safeguards remain works in progress, he calls for educators and caregivers to create child-centered protocols to address appropriate use of AI use in a fashion designed to account for developmental vulnerabilities.\n\nTalukder reports that children’s susceptibility to AI-generated misinformation is based on predictable cognitive and developmental patterns. (2026) used a sample of 521 students in Türkiye to investigate how fourth and eighth graders view artificial [intelligence](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/intelligence).[ii] Regarding general familiarity with the technology, almost all of the students reported having seen the term \"artificial intelligence.\" Aydemir et al. found that older students described AI in more abstract and cognitively oriented ways, while most of the children associated it with technology like robots, phones, and computers. Regarding how frequently the children used AI, Aydemir et al. discovered that children who used digital devices more often were more likely to view AI with more complexity, including recognizing AI’s interactive, and human-like features.\n\nAydemir et al. also investigated the perception of AI’s conceptual limitations, including the fact that it lacks moral judgment, emotions, [creativity](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/creativity), and existence as an autonomous agent, which they note illustrates growing conceptual sophistication as children age.\n\n## Adult Wisdom Augments Artificial Assistance\n\nFor parents and caregivers, Talukder is one of many voices suggesting practical strategies include viewing AI-mediated content with children, as well as introducing them to credibility-testing techniques such as verifying sources. He recognizes that users and designers can also implement safety features such as clear AI labeling, and decreasing personalization efforts for content delivered to minors.
