What Is Context Engineering? #
Most discussions about AI focus on prompt engineering , how to ask better questions or write more effective prompts.
Context engineering looks at a different problem.
Instead of improving the question, it improves the information available to answer the question. Think about how an experienced developer works. They don’t rely on memory alone. They know where to find architecture diagrams, coding standards, deployment procedures, design decisions, and previous implementations. They gather just enough information to solve the problem without getting distracted by everything else.
AI assistants need that same discipline. The goal is not to provide more context. It’s to provide the right context, at the right time, for the right task.
