He emphasizes the importance of understanding the actual problem, learning new tools on the job, and combining AI with automation to streamline processes while keeping humans in the loop for critical decisions.", "body_md": "My name is Agbaje Olarewaju, and I’m an AI automation specialist, automation architect, and digital solutions entrepreneur from Nigeria.\n\nThis is my first post here, so I thought the best place to start is by telling you who I am, what I build, and why I enjoy doing it.\n\nI’m the kind of person who enjoys looking at a messy business process and asking the following:\n\n“Why are we doing all of this manually?”\n\nThat question has taken me into AI automation, n8n, APIs, CRMs, AI agents, databases, SaaS products, websites, and a lot of late nights trying to figure out why something refused to work. 😂\n\nAnd honestly?\n\nI enjoy it.\n\nOne thing I’ve learned from building automation systems is that you can’t know every tool.\n\nEvery client can come with a different\n\nAnd sometimes the tool they are already using is completely new to you.\n\nI experienced this myself with one of my early projects.\n\nI was given a Housecall Pro project, and I had never worked with that CRM before.\n\nBut I didn't say\n\n“I don't know this CRM, so I can't do it.”\n\nI focused on understanding the problem.\n\nI asked questions.\n\nI searched.\n\nI learned how the system worked.\n\nThen I designed a solution around the actual requirement.\n\nThat experience taught me something I still carry with me today:\n\nYou don't need to know everything before you start.\n\nYou need to know how to find the answer.\n\nOne of my favourite parts of automation\n\nI love taking a process that looks like this:\n\nCustomer → Form → Human checks it → Human sends payment link → Customer pays → Human checks payment → Human sends receipt → Human updates CRM\n\nAnd turning it into something closer to:\n\nCustomer → System → Payment Link → Payment Verification → Receipt → CRM Update\n\nWith a human-in-the-loop when an important decision needs human confirmation.\n\nThat's where I use tools like n8n, APIs, CRMs, databases, AI models, and frontend applications.\n\nThe goal isn't to remove humans.\n\nThe goal is to remove the unnecessary repetitive work so humans can focus on the things that actually require them.\n\nI also believe the tool is not the solution\n\nThis is something I talk about a lot.\n\nPeople sometimes approach automation like this:\n\n“I need an n8n workflow.”\n\nOr:\n\n“I need an AI agent.”\n\nOr:\n\n“I need a chatbot.”\n\nBut I prefer to start somewhere else:\n\nWhat is the actual problem?\n\nBecause sometimes the best solution isn't the most complicated one.\n\nI've worked on situations where a client wanted a feature that would have cost significantly more as they scaled.\n\nInstead of simply implementing the expensive option, I looked at what they actually needed.\n\nThe requirement was much simpler than the feature being offered.\n\nSo we found another approach using a third-party tool that could handle the same requirement at a much lower cost and scale across their offices.\n\nThat experience reinforced something for me:\n\nDon't fall in love with the tool. Fall in love with solving the problem.\n\nAI + Automation is changing how I build\n\nToday, I'm particularly interested in the intersection of the following:\n\nAI + Automation + Business Systems\n\nI'm building with and learning about technologies such as\n\nBut I'm not interested in using AI just because AI is trending.\n\nI want to use it where it actually creates value.\n\nFor example:\n\nA lead enters a website.\n\nInstead of waiting hours for someone to respond, the system can immediately respond.\n\nThe message can be analyzed.\n\nThe lead can be scored.\n\nThe sales team can be notified.\n\nThe CRM can be updated.\n\nA follow-up can be scheduled.\n\nAnd the human salesperson can step in when needed.\n\nThat's much more interesting to me than simply saying\n\n“Look, I built an AI chatbot.”\n\nI also build with Lovable\n\nAnd yes 😂...\n\nFor those who know me from my other platforms, you probably already know I enjoy using Lovable.\n\nI jokingly call it the king of UI/UX. 👑😂\n\nBut what I enjoy most is combining tools.\n\nLovable can help me create the interface.\n\nSupabase can handle the data layer.\n\nn8n can orchestrate the workflows.\n\nAPIs connect external services.\n\nAI handles reasoning or classification where appropriate.\n\nAnd the result becomes a complete system rather than just another website.\n\nBuilding every day has taught me more than tutorials\n\nOne thing I strongly believe in is building.\n\nNot just watching tutorials.\n\nNot just saving GitHub repositories.\n\nNot just collecting AI tools.\n\nBuild.\n\nYour first project may be bad.\n\nYour second project may break.\n\nYour third project may have bugs you don't understand.\n\nThat's normal.\n\nEvery time you build, you're improving more than your technical skills.\n\nYou're building your\n\nSometimes the project isn't successful.\n\nBut you still learned something.\n\nAnd that knowledge goes into the next project.\n\nSince this is my first post on DEV Community, I want this space to document the journey.\n\nI'll be sharing things I'm actually building and learning around:\n\nAI automation\n\nn8n workflows\n\nAI agents\n\nAPIs and integrations\n\nSupabase\n\nCRM automation\n\nSaaS systems\n\nLovable and AI-assisted development\n\nBusiness process automation\n\nLessons from client projects\n\nThings that broke and how I fixed them\n\nAnd most importantly, I'll try to share the why behind the implementation, not just the code.\n\nBecause I believe understanding the problem is just as important as knowing how to write the solution.\n\nI'm not here because I believe I know everything.\n\nActually, I've learned the opposite.\n\nYou can't know it all.\n\nTechnology changes too quickly.\n\nNew frameworks appear.\n\nNew AI models come out.\n\nCRMs change.\n\nAPIs change.\n\nTools disappear.\n\nNew tools appear.\n\nThe people who stay relevant are the people willing to keep learning, keep asking questions, keep searching, and keep building.\n\nThat's the mindset I'm bringing here.\n\nSo if you're interested in AI, automation, development, SaaS, APIs, business systems, or just building things that solve real problems, I'd love to connect.\n\nI'm Agbaje Olarewaju.\n\nI'm building, learning, breaking things, fixing them, and documenting the journey.\n\nWelcome to my corner of DEV Community. 🚀🇳🇬\n\nAnd if you're building something too, drop it below.\n\nI'd love to see what you're working on.", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/hi-dev-community-im-agbaje-i-build-systems-not-just-automations", "canonical_source": "https://dev.to/agbaje_olarewaju_1891bb89/hi-dev-community-im-agbaje-i-build-systems-not-just-automations-2768", "published_at": "2026-08-24 16:50:24+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-08-24 17:13:37.848660+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["artificial-intelligence", "ai-agents", "ai-products", "developer-tools"], "entities": ["Agbaje Olarewaju", "n8n", "Housecall Pro", "Lovable", "Supabase"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/hi-dev-community-im-agbaje-i-build-systems-not-just-automations", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/hi-dev-community-im-agbaje-i-build-systems-not-just-automations.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/hi-dev-community-im-agbaje-i-build-systems-not-just-automations.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/hi-dev-community-im-agbaje-i-build-systems-not-just-automations.jsonld"}}
