[Learn more.](https://www.androidauthority.com/external-links/)\n\n# Here's how Googlebooks will stop random files from clogging your desktop\n\nSep 2, 2026 — 1:55 PM ET\n\n- Googlebooks will use AI to sort files into topic-based folders automatically.\n- These folders, or collections, will also be accessible through desktop widgets.\n- Users will also be able to share local files directly with Gemini Notebook.\n\nThe first set of Googlebook devices is [expected to arrive as soon as mid-September](https://www.androidauthority.com/googlebook-launch-date-3700141/). While Google has yet to formally confirm the launch schedule, Acer, one of its hardware partners, recently [teased its first Googlebook at IFA 2026](https://www.androidauthority.com/acer-googlebook-coming-soon-look-3706074/), priming us for what’s coming.\n\nAhead of the Googlebook launch, we’ve discovered a set of features under the umbrella of “Device Intelligence.” As the name suggests, these features use AI to help you get the most out of the Android-powered laptop experience.\n\nYou’re reading an [ Authority Insights](https://andauth.co/AuthorityInsights) story. Authority Insights brings you all the latest exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage from the\n\n*Android Authority*team that you won’t find anywhere else.\n\nWe’ve been able to grab an early build of the Device Intelligence app meant for Googlebooks. The first use case we’ve spotted in this build is the ability to automatically sort files and create collections to store locally in folders.\n\nThe AI sorting feature could be voluntary and was turned off by default when we found it. When we enabled the AI sorting feature, the app showed its description in a pop-up, as can be seen in the screenshot below, along with an example.\n\nThe example the app shares describes AI automatically gathering all files related to a trip you might be planning, letting you access them all in a single place. The pop-up also emphasizes that files don’t leave Googlebook and aren’t used to train any AI.\n\nNotably, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the automatic file-sorting feature. Back in May, the function was previewed as part of [a leak of Aluminum OS](https://www.androidauthority.com/google-aluminium-os-leak-3665979/), which is the codename for the new [Android-based operating system that will power Googlebooks](https://www.androidauthority.com/aluminium-os-android-for-pcs-3619092/).\n\nThe file-sorting functionality is also supplemented by a desktop widget that should let Googlebook users quickly pick file collections without opening the Files app.\n\nThe second use case for Device Intelligence is the deep integration with Gemini Notebook (previously NotebookLM). With the integration, you can add local files directly to existing notebooks or create new ones.\n\nThis is essentially the same as uploading files from your PC or mobile to Gemini Notebook, and Googlebooks will also allow users to share files directly with the app. Gemini Notebook appears as a destination in the standard share sheet, and selecting the option lets you choose the notebook.\n\nThe example above shows the workflow for sharing a file directly from Google Photos into Gemini Notebook, along with the option to choose a notebook. This is identical to the current process of sharing files with the NotebookLM app on Android.\n\nThe only caveat worth noting is that users will only be able to share files weighing up to 200MB.\n\nIt goes without saying that the workflow might change closer to the launch in a couple of weeks, which is when we expect to have a better idea. Stay tuned for our coverage of Googlebooks, including any leaks and teasers ahead of the launch later in September.\n\n**⚠️** An\n\n**APK teardown** helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.\n\nThank you for being part of our community.
