Have your say on advancing AI transparency in Canada

The Government of Canada has launched a public consultation from July 23 to September 23, 2026, on advancing AI transparency, seeking input on five areas including detecting AI-generated content and tracking AI agent activity, as part of its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy: AI for All.

Current status: Open from July 23 to September 23, 2026 Artificial intelligence AI technologies already power many of the products and services Canadians use every day. It is increasingly important that AI systems be safe to use and that their governance be grounded in transparency and clear accountability. To help advance the vision set out in Canada's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy: AI for All https://ised-isde.canada.ca/site/ised/en/canadas-national-artificial-intelligence-strategy-ai-all , the Government of Canada has launched a public consultation on increasing AI transparency. Increased transparency can help Canadians understand when they are interacting with AI systems, help businesses make informed decisions about the AI products they adopt, and give governments and organizations the information they need to develop policies and research that shape Canadians' experience with AI. The government has identified five areas where transparency issues arise and where further action may be warranted: - Detecting and identifying AI-generated content - Empowering individuals to know when they are interacting with an AI system - Improving the availability of consistent and understandable information about AI systems, including their development, capabilities and limitations - Enabling the tracking of serious incidents related to AI systems - Advancing ways to better track the activity and interactions of AI agents You are invited to take the survey and share your views on these issues. Vision statement Canada's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy: AI for All https://ised-isde.canada.ca/site/ised/en/canadas-national-artificial-intelligence-strategy-ai-all sets out the government's plan to introduce new legislation, investments and programs over the next five years to ensure that AI is adopted responsibly, in a way that truly serves all Canadians. This goal will only be accomplished by building trust, expanding opportunities and strengthening our digital sovereignty. At its core, AI for All is grounded in the principle that the benefits of AI must be shared widely, ensuring that workers, businesses and communities across Canada can access and benefit from AI. To achieve these goals, the government is opening a dialogue on opportunities to enhance AI transparency so that Canadians and Canadian businesses can make informed decisions about using, adopting and engaging with AI and that governments, researchers and civil society organizations have the information they need to shape AI policy and research. Next steps Following the consultation, the government will review submissions and publish a What We Heard report.
