Harvey Launches Pro Bono Program, Collaborating with Pro Bono Leaders At Major Firms

Legal AI company Harvey launched a pro bono program in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, starting with senior pro bono leaders at Perkins Coie, DLA Piper and Nelson Mullins as design partners. Harvey said it will build custom agents for high-volume pro bono casework such as housing support, veterans services and social welfare claims, and will provide legal engineering staff in the U.S. and U.K. Christopher Hook, Harvey's global head of responsible business, wrote in a blog post that the initiative is part of the Responsible Business Program Harvey announced in February, with a pilot giving free Harvey access to an initial cohort of direct legal services organizations launching later in the year.

In addition to providing programmatic support, Harvey will also provide staff for legal engineering support specific to the pro bono project in both the U.S. and the U.K. Throughout this program, Harvey said, it will closely measure how Harvey affects outcomes and increases the capacity of pro bono lawyers to provide expert advice. Harvey said that it is also exploring partnering with organizations that provide direct legal services. It said it has identified an initial cohort of organizations that will receive free access to Harvey as part of an in-depth pilot launching later in the year. Harvey is launching this pro bono initiative as part of the Responsible Business Program it announced in February. “This step represents just the beginning of our work and investment in this area,” Hook wrote, adding that more detailed updates will come as the initiative develops.
