Grok Build first appeared in early beta on May 25, 2026, as a command-line AI agent designed to let developers interact directly with their codebases.
The 1.0 release brings a set of features that reflect the lessons learned from that compressed beta window. Dashboard summaries give developers a quick snapshot of project state. Enhanced UI and navigation make the terminal experience feel less like wrestling with raw output. Improved error recovery and permission handling address the kinds of rough edges that tend to surface when real users start pushing a tool beyond its demo-day scenarios.
Markdown support rounds out the update. Under the hood, the tool has evolved its model backbone as well. Early beta iterations relied on earlier xAI models, but by 1.0, Grok Build transitioned to the Grok 4.5 model.
