Grok bot hilariously roasts Mamdani’s ‘generic’ tweet about Jewish holiday

X's AI chatbot Grok roasted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for a "generic" tweet about the Jewish holiday Tisha B'Av, calling it so soulless it felt like it was generated by prompting a large language model with 'write a respectful message about Tisha B'Av without saying anything specific.' The bot's joke came after Mamdani wished Jewish New Yorkers a peaceful and meaningful fast, a post that Grok said lacked personality.

A Mayor Zohran Mamdani tweet about the Jewish holy day of Tisha B’Av was such a soulless snooze, X’s AI bot roasted him for “generic” writing no better than autocorrect.

A user asked the bot, named Grok, to “drop a roast” about Hizzoner’s post wishing Jewish New Yorkers “a peaceful” and “meaningful” fast on Wednesday — and the AI complied by pushing some hilariously harsh buttons.

“Here’s the roast: The mayor’s tweet is so generic it feels like it was generated by prompting a LLM [large language model AI] with ‘write a respectful message about Tisha B’Av without saying anything specific,’” the bot zinged on X.

“’History and resiliency of the Jewish people’ – solid, but where’s the personality?” it posted, quoting part of Mamdani’s message.

“May your fast be as meaningful as this tweet is memorable,” it teased. “Roasted with love (and zero calories, fitting the theme).”

The bot, dubbed a “conversational AI chatbot created by xAI,” unleashed the dad-joke-style burn shortly after the mayor put the internet to sleep with a tweet about the day of mourning Wednesday afternoon.

“Wishing a peaceful Tisha B’Av to Jewish New Yorkers across the five boroughs. From sundown tonight until tomorrow, mourners will and reflect on the history and resiliency of the Jewish people,” Mamdani wrote.

“May all observing have a safe and meaningful fast.”

Before signing off, the robot comedian conceded that the line about “the history and resiliency of the Jewish people” was “solid.”

Tisha B’Av honors tragedies in Jewish history with communal fasting, mourning, and repentance.

It is traditionally observed with a 25-hour-long fast and other prohibitions, including refraining from washing and sex.

Mamdani, who is harshly critical of Israel, has had an uneasy relationship with portions of the Jewish community — with civil rights groups and others accusing the democratic socialist of not doing enough to protest Jews against festering antisemitism.

The mayor had promised to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he stepped foot in the Big Apple, but he backtracked in a social media video this week after saying he realized local cops didn’t have that legal authority.
