The Government Digital Service aims to improve the app's chatbot and user experience through ongoing research and development.", "body_md": "##### The Government Digital Service has pledged to continue to augment the mobile service’s chatbot function, as well as improving supporting user research and exploring the possibility of incorporating agentic tools\n\nAs it enters its second year of full operation, the GOV.UK App aims to “deepen personalisation” for its user base of 600,000-plus citizens.\n\nYesterday marked one year since the [nationwide launch](https://www.publictechnology.net/2025/07/03/science-technology-and-research/what-next-for-the-gov-uk-app/) of the app, which provides users with a single front door through which to access services and information across government departments. Over the past 12 months, new features – including an [artificial intelligence-powered chatbot](https://www.publictechnology.net/2026/05/15/society-and-welfare/government-ai-chatbot-goes-live-across-gov-uk-app/) – have been added to the platform, and “the next year will see us continue to make significant improvements”, according to a newly published blog post from Leanne Cummings, director for GOV.UK products and services.\n\nThese ongoing upgrades will primarily seek to “deepen the personalisation experience and enhance the AI capabilities… including bringing new information into the app experience”.\n\nA new piece of functionality to be trialled this month – and potentially fully rolled out later this year – will provide “the ability for users to view their driver and vehicle information from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency directly in the GOV.UK App”.\n\nOther developments will focus on the GOV.UK Chat AI assistant – which is based on Claude’s Anthropic large language model – and will seek “to further improve its ability to help people cut through complexity and get easy-to-understand answers in seconds”, according to Cummings.\n\n### Related content\n\n[GOV.UK App taps into A/B testing](https://www.publictechnology.net/2025/11/05/society-and-welfare/gov-uk-app-taps-into-a-b-testing/)[EXCL: GOV.UK App passes 250,000 downloads](https://www.publictechnology.net/2025/11/28/society-and-welfare/excl-gov-uk-app-passes-250000-downloads/)[GDS invites 5,000 users to test GOV.UK App](https://www.publictechnology.net/2025/04/02/society-and-welfare/gds-invites-5000-users-to-test-gov-uk-app/)\n\n“We are also exploring how agentic AI could deliver even greater benefits for users, supporting them to complete tasks and navigate to the correct support more easily,” she added. “We are passionate about continuing to improve based on ongoing user-centred research, data and design, to make sure our technology works for everyone, enabling millions of people to download the app, and experience a true transformation in the way they interact with government.”\n\nData issued by the government to mark the app anniversary indicates that current uptake levels of the program stand at more than 600,000. This equates to about 1,650 people downloading the app each day.\n\nAs well as collating central government services and information, the app also invites users to enter their postcode and then provides links to local authority support. About one in five users have accessed council services via the GOV.UK App, according to the government.\n\nMinister for data and digital government Ian Murray said: “In its first year, the GOV.UK app has shown how much people value simpler, faster and more joined-up public services. With over 600,000 downloads, it’s helping people access support more easily – from applying for a driving licence to accessing childcare support – saving time and making everyday tasks simpler. We’re now focused on building on that progress, with more personalised services, stronger connections across government, and responsible use of AI to get people the information they need quickly and easily.”", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/gov-uk-app-to-deepen-personalisation-in-second-year-after-hitting-600000", "canonical_source": "https://www.publictechnology.net/2026/07/02/society-and-welfare/gov-uk-app-to-deepen-personalisation-in-second-year-after-hitting-600000-downloads/", "published_at": "2026-07-02 12:46:48+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-07-07 00:47:45.826144+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["artificial-intelligence", "ai-agents", "ai-products", "large-language-models", "ai-tools"], "entities": ["GOV.UK App", "Government Digital Service", "Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency", "Claude", "Anthropic", "Leanne Cummings", "Ian Murray"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/gov-uk-app-to-deepen-personalisation-in-second-year-after-hitting-600000", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/gov-uk-app-to-deepen-personalisation-in-second-year-after-hitting-600000.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/gov-uk-app-to-deepen-personalisation-in-second-year-after-hitting-600000.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/gov-uk-app-to-deepen-personalisation-in-second-year-after-hitting-600000.jsonld"}}
