Google’s Gemini AI app now counts more than one billion monthly active users, a figure that would make it the fastest growing product in the company’s history. To put that in perspective, it took Gmail about 14 years to reach a comparable number.
The growth trajectory has been staggering. Gemini had roughly 650 million monthly active users in October 2025, climbed to 750 million by February 2026, and hit 950 million in Alphabet’s Q2 2026 earnings report released in July. Daily active users have tripled year-over-year.
The race to a billion #
Gemini’s ascent puts it in the same rarified air as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reached the billion-MAU milestone in June 2026.
The app is woven into Search through AI Overviews and AI Mode, baked into Android, and integrated across Google Workspace. On the backend, Gemini’s infrastructure processes 22 billion API tokens per minute.
Alphabet’s AI-powered earnings surge #
Alphabet reported Q2 2026 revenue of $119.8 billion, a 24% year-over-year increase. Nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies have now integrated Gemini Enterprise into their operations.
