Google to speed up chip rollout to stay ahead in AI, technology chief says

Google is accelerating its schedule for developing and rolling out its own customized chips, shifting from a two-year cycle for each generation to introducing two chips a year and eventually even more to stay ahead in the artificial intelligence race, the company's AI infrastructure chief said on Wednesday. Google Senior Vice President Amin Vahdat made the announcement during Semicon Taiwan 2026 in Taipei, where he also said the company will double down on R&D in Taiwan by expanding local space 60%.
