Users still affected can check for app updates via the Google Play Store.\n\nWe are aware of an issue preventing some users from making calls with Gemini on Android Auto and mobile devices. A fix is now available, and users can resolve this by updating their app to the latest version in the Google Play Store.\n\nOur original coverage follows:\n\nConfirmed by quite a few Android Auto users [on separate](https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidAuto/comments/1u5tldf/gemini_cant_make_calls_in_android_auto_something/) [Reddit threads](https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleGeminiAI/comments/1u4wkqd/something_went_wrong_error_while_making_calls_via/) this week, Gemini is failing to make calls via voice commands in the car. It also seems to be affected Gemini’s ability to place calls on Android itself.\n\nAn error message saying “Something went wrong. Please try again” shows up on the phone as pictured below.\n\nSeeing as this isn’t an Android Auto-only issue, it’s hard to say what exactly is the root cause of the problem, but it’s probably rooted in a Gemini or Google app update.\n\n## Top comment by [Carpentractor ](#comments)\n\nI believe mine just got fixed this evening with an app update. I've had the bug system wide since Friday, but an even crazier bug with the pixel buds in Google maps for almost 2 weeks. As soon as maps navigation would start, it would force the pixel buds app to revert to assistant settings and the Gemini options would immediately disappear in the buds app. Same \"something went wrong\" toast as the other bug. I have yet to verify if this has been corrected. These types of bugs shouldn't exist in stable and certainly shouldn't persist.\n\nUpdate: The bug still persists in maps navigation.\n\n[View all comments](#comments)\n\nSeveral affected users say switching back to Google Assistant seems to fix the problem, but that’s definitely a short-term fix.\n\nWe’ll update this post as more details become available.\n\nNotably, this comes as we’ve also noticed in recent days that Android Auto has been intermittently showing the Assistant icon again instead of Gemini, despite using Gemini for the response. It’s at random and hard to repeat, but we’ve seen it a few times in the past few days. Let us know in the comments below if you’re seeing this visual bug.\n\n## More on Gemini:\n\n[Gemini app for macOS gets new icon and hotkey screenshot shortcut](https://9to5google.com/2026/06/12/gemini-macos-updates/)[Google teams up with Paris Hilton to showcase Android and AI app building](https://9to5google.com/2026/06/09/google-teams-up-with-paris-hilton-to-showcase-android-and-ai-app-building/)[Gemini can now control your Google TV’s settings, but only on these models](https://9to5google.com/2026/06/11/google-tv-gemini-settings-controls/)\n\n**Follow Ben:** [Twitter/X](https://twitter.com/NexusBen), [Threads](https://www.threads.net/@nexusben), [Bluesky](https://bsky.app/profile/nexusben.com), and [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/nexusben)\n\n*FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links.* [More.](https://9to5mac.com/about/#affiliate)\n\n[our homepage](http://9to5google.com/)for all the latest news, and follow 9to5Google on\n\n[exclusive stories](https://9to5google.com/feature/exclusive/),\n\n[reviews](https://9to5google.com/guides/reviews/),\n\n[how-tos](https://9to5google.com/guides/how-to/), and\n\n[subscribe to our YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/9to5google)", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/google-rolling-out-fix-for-gemini-after-it-couldnt-make-calls-on-android-and-u", "canonical_source": "https://9to5google.com/2026/06/16/gemini-suddenly-cant-make-calls-on-android-and-android-auto-for-some/", "published_at": "2026-06-16 16:29:06+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-06-16 18:55:44.945026+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["ai-products", "ai-tools"], "entities": ["Google", "Gemini", "Android Auto", "Android", "Google Play Store", "9to5Google"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/google-rolling-out-fix-for-gemini-after-it-couldnt-make-calls-on-android-and-u", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/google-rolling-out-fix-for-gemini-after-it-couldnt-make-calls-on-android-and-u.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/google-rolling-out-fix-for-gemini-after-it-couldnt-make-calls-on-android-and-u.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/google-rolling-out-fix-for-gemini-after-it-couldnt-make-calls-on-android-and-u.jsonld"}}
