Google launches Pics, an AI image generation tool integrated into Workspace. Users can both create new images and edit existing ones, featuring real-time collaboration and direct storage in Google Drive.
Google Pics is now generally and freely available to customers with a Business Standard subscription or higher, and to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. The tool runs on the Nano Banana model and promises a new way of working with visuals, directly within familiar Workspace apps such as Docs and Slides. Drive integration will follow at a later stage.

With Google Pics, users can not only generate images based on text prompts but also upload existing images for customization. Consider creating a flyer, isolating objects from a photo, or completely restyling a product image. More precise edits, such as moving, removing, or transforming individual objects, are also possible using prompts.
Pics offers extensive batch editing features, allowing users to adjust multiple elements simultaneously. Text within images can be translated or modified, and the size of objects can be changed individually.
Google Drive, Slides, and Docs #
Pics is fully integrated into Google Drive, Slides, and Docs. Images created or edited in Pics are automatically available across all connected platforms. Users can easily share images via links, after which team members can make simultaneous adjustments, similar to existing Workspace functionality.
The tool can be found as a standalone web app or via the ‘+ New’ menu in Google Drive. Access is standard for Workspace users with the appropriate subscription. Upgrading is possible for personal use or smaller projects.
With this new tool, Google is attempting to keep pace with competitors such as Canva or Adobe. Recently, Adobe embedded itself even deeper into ChatGPT with a new plugin, and Slack is also receiving a full Adobe injection with 70 creative tools.
