# Google Photos could soon add a map view in Ask Photos

Aug 19, 2026 — 6:25 AM ET

- Google is working on a new “Map” option for Ask Photos.
- It will display search results on a map if they have geolocation data in their metadata.
- A similar map view is already available in Google Photos’ “Collections” tab.

[Ask Photos](https://www.androidauthority.com/google-photos-ask-photos-3443283/) is a useful AI-powered feature in Google Photos that helps users easily find photos and videos with natural language queries. Google has been working on a bunch of [new features for Ask Photos](https://www.androidauthority.com/google-photos-ask-photos-edit-metadata-apk-teardown-3687738/) over the past few months, and now we’ve spotted yet another new development that could make it a lot more useful.

Looking through the latest version of the Google Photos app (v7.89.0.966319819), we managed to enable a new option in the app. Currently, if you search for a location with Ask Photos, it surfaces all images and videos with that location in their metadata. However, you could soon see a new “Map” option next to “Ask Photos,” which will display the results overlaid on a map.

This could make it a lot easier — and, dare I say, more fun — to look through photos from a vacation or trip.

The feature will display images as clusters, with numbers indicating how many photos were taken at each location. Users will be able to zoom in on the map or tap on a cluster of images to further expand them and get a more detailed look at photos taken at any given location. There’s also a refresh icon in the top-left corner that will reset the zoom.

The “Map” feature seems like it could be a useful upgrade for Google Photos. A similar feature is already available in the Apple Photos app on iPhone, and Google Photos also has a map view inside the “Collections” tab. However, by bringing a dedicated map view to the Ask Photos search option, Google could potentially simplify things for a lot of users.

The new “Map” option in Ask Photos isn’t available yet. However, it seems to be working as expected and could be rolled out soon. We’ll keep you updated with any new information about the feature as we come across it.

**⚠️** An

**APK teardown** helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.
