Following its announcement back in March, Google Maps appears to be rolling out its “Immersive Navigation” redesign more broadly, but not everyone has it yet. Do you?
“Immersive Navigation” is the biggest update Google Maps has had in about a decade, introducing much more specific navigation maps, especially in city/urban locations. It also leverages Google’s AI prowess in places such as natural language voice guidance and analysis of local routes and landmarks.
Google initially said back in March that the update was rolling out, but seemingly to a tiny initial audience. The “over the coming months” seems to have more broadly arrived, though, as we’re starting to see more user reports of the redesign showing up for users.
The most prominent example here is on a Reddit thread where an Android Auto user spotted the new design live in their vehicle.
The folks over at * ZDNet* also say they’ve noticed the change through Android Auto, albeit without a picture to show for it.
But reports still seem far and few in between. We’re not seeing many other reports, so the question comes to you – are you seeing the revamped “Immersive Navigation” in Google Maps? You’ll be able to tell the difference on your phone or in the car by looking at the design of the navigation. Telltale signs include transparent bridges, a new car indicator design, and more prominent lane markers. There’s also a new Gemini icon on the phone version.
Some elements of the redesign broadly rolled out in April, but it’s not the full version of the redesign. Per Google’s announcement, this should only be showing up for US users at the moment, but both on Android/Android Auto/Google built-in and iOS/CarPlay.
Vote in the poll below and drop a comment if you’re seeing the new redesign yet.
