Users are finding that Google Home’s longstanding skill of adding items to shopping lists with voice commands has disintegrated, but it all seems to be part of a strange bug for a number of people.
As Google has begun rolling out Gemini for Home to users, bugs with voice commands and the Home app have begun appearing more frequently, or so it seems. The latest breaks the link between Google Assistant or Gemini’s and its ability to add items to a shopping list in Google Keep.
Users are noting on Reddit that asking the usual “add [items] to my [list name] list” isn’t working anymore (via Android Authority). Instead of adding entries to a saved list in the user’s Google Keep notes, the assistant will give information unrelated to the shopping list, or fail to load entirely.
What should happen is that Gemini for Google Home adds the items to the shopping list without an issue. But there’s a break in the usual process, leading to confusion among some users. One user reports that Google Home’s assistant would repeat the same question.
The issue isn’t fully widespread and seems to be affecting a chunk of users while being a non-issue for others. Some have found that the notes and lists setting in Google Home is disabled entirely, with no way to turn it back on. That could be preventing Gemini from accessing Google Keep lists and making edits.
On our end, asking Gemini to create a new list and add items to it was a flawless process. That isn’t to say we don’t experience frustrating hiccups more often than we’d like. Still, this particular issue isn’t happening here, but that clearly isn’t the case for everyone.
Google has not seemingly addressed the issue, though Google Home updates have been frequent and have addressed some previous bugs rather quickly.
