Google Health now lets you remove AI guidance from the Today tab

Google Health version 5.06, rolling out now on Android and iOS, adds a 'No Coach insights' toggle that removes AI-driven guidance from the Today tab, addressing user complaints about inaccurate insights. The feature, confirmed by Google's blog post, lets users disable Health Coach's verbose guidance while still accessing the chatbot elsewhere in the app.

  • Google Health Premium includes AI-driven guidance in the Google Health app’s Today tab.
  • The latest version of Google Health adds a toggle to turn this Health Coach guidance off.
  • You’re still able to access Health Coach in other ways after removing it from the Today tab.

One of Google Health Premium’s flagship perks is access to Google Health Coach, a Gemini-powered chatbot that can use your data stored in Google Health to try to answer questions and provide (technically non-medical advice) guidance. By default, Health Coach takes up a lot of space in Google Health’s Today tab — but as of the latest update, you’ve now got the option to kick Coach out of Google Health’s home screen.

As spotted by 9to5Google, version 5.06 of Google Health is rolling out now on Android and iOS. The main new bit in this version, according to a

Google’s blog post about the update, is a No Coach insightsoption, which removes Health Coach’s verbose guidance and insights from the app’s Today tab.

We saw evidence that this change was coming earlier this summer when we discovered strings in Google Health that referenced the new No Coach insights toggle.

The option to turn off these insights will be a considerable improvement for a lot of users. *Android Authority’*s Brady Snyder wrote up his experience with Google Health Premium and Health Coach last month, and he found that Coach’s questionably accurate insights actually made the Google Health app worse.

If you’re in the same boat, you can now switch off Health Coach on the Google Health app’s Today tab by tapping your profile picture, then Google Health settings, then Coach. There, you can select No Coach insights, which will remove Health Coach text from the app’s home screen. You’ll still be able to access Coach, it just won’t insert itself into the Today tab. Version 5.06 of Google Health is rolling out right now. You can grab it on the Play Store (or the App Store, on iOS).
