Perplexity’s 2026 story remains a pivot story: from “AI answer engine with stagnant growth” to “agent company growing revenue rapidly.” Since the spring, the company has kept expanding its Computer agent product deeper into enterprise workflows, most notably into Microsoft 365, while its web traffic share and mobile app share have both remained essentially flat, in contrast to the much larger moves happening elsewhere in the market.
Key Perplexity AI Usage Statistics – July 2026 #
- Perplexity’s global web traffic share sits at ~1.3%(Similarweb, data to May 26, 2026), down slightly from 2.0% in March - Perplexity’s valuation stands at $22.6 billion following a January 2026 Series E-6 round Perplexity Computer is now integrated directly inside Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams), a significant enterprise distribution expansion announced in June 2026Deep Research has been added inside Computer, alongside a new command panel, task forking, and enterprise controls including a Computer Analytics APIPersonal Computer, an always-on AI agent running on a dedicated Mac mini, is now available to all users via a new Perplexity Mac app- The Perplexity API is now a full-stack, model-agnostic platform with four components: an Agent API, Search API, Embeddings API, and a forthcoming Sandbox API for code execution
- Annualised revenue remains in the $450 to $500 million range as of Q2 2026
Perplexity went from “Google Killer” to completely vanishing from our timelines.

Perplexity’s Traffic and Market Share: Mostly Flat #
Perplexity’s 2.0% web traffic share held unusually stable through the spring in a market where every other platform was moving sharply. The most recent Similarweb data suggests that stability has tipped slightly negative:
AI Platform | March 2026 | May 2026 | | ChatGPT | 56.7% | 52.7% | | Gemini | 25.5% | 27.3% | | Claude | ~6% | 8.9% | | DeepSeek | 3.7% | 4.0% | | Grok | ~2.8 to 6%* | 2.8% | | Copilot | 1.1% | 2.0% | Perplexity | 2.0% | ~1.3% |
*See our Grok AI Stats post for a note on conflicting March-period readings. Perplexity’s share has drifted down rather than held perfectly flat, a reminder that “stable in a moving market” is itself a form of relative decline once Gemini and Claude are compounding at the rates they are. On mobile, Apptopia’s most recent briefs don’t call out Perplexity specifically in the June update, but the April reading (2.1% US DAU share, down from a 6% peak in October 2025) remains the most recent figure available; there’s no clear evidence of the “first signs of recovery” flagged in April having turned into a sustained rebound by June.
The Product Pivot Continues: Computer Goes Enterprise-Wide #
The most significant recent development for Perplexity is the deepening of its agent strategy inside one of the largest software ecosystems on Earth:
Computer inside Microsoft 365(June 2026): Perplexity’s agentic product is now available directly inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, letting users draft documents, analyse spreadsheets, build presentations, and manage communications using context already present across their files and emailDeep Research in Computer: a new capability letting users start with a complex research question and carry the output directly into a report, spreadsheet, deck, dashboard, or website within the same workflow; Perplexity claims this outperforms comparable deep-research products on recent benchmarksPersonal Computer: an always-on AI agent that runs on a dedicated Mac mini, merging local files, native Mac apps, and web/server-side sessions into a single persistent assistant, now available to all users through a new Perplexity Mac app- The Perplexity API has been rebuilt as a full-stack agent platform: an Agent API for multi-step workflow orchestration, a Search API for real-time web-grounded retrieval, an Embeddings API for large-scale retrieval, and a forthcoming Sandbox API for secure code execution
Taken together, this is a company continuing to bet that its long-term value lies in becoming an agentic infrastructure layer for knowledge work, deployed inside the tools people already use, rather than competing head-on with ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude as a standalone chatbot.
Funding and Valuation #
Perplexity closed a Series E-6 round in January 2026 that pushed its valuation to $22.6 billion. The amount raised in that specific round has not been publicly disclosed, but the valuation increase confirms continued investor appetite even as Perplexity’s market-share metrics have plateaued. Total funding raised across all rounds now stands at roughly $1.72 billion across 11 rounds, with key investors including Accel, IVP, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Nvidia, Jeff Bezos, and Databricks.
At a $22.6 billion valuation against roughly $450 to $500 million in annualised revenue, Perplexity trades at somewhere in the 45 to 50x ARR range, down meaningfully from the 100x+ multiple implied at the time of the September 2025 round, but still a premium that requires continued rapid growth to justify.
How People Use Perplexity #
The usage breakdown we’ve reported previously, roughly 55% personal use, 30% professional, 15% educational, with Productivity & Workflow the single largest topic category at just over a third of all queries, remains the best available data as of July 2026; no updated academic study has superseded the Cornell University analysis this is based on. Perplexity’s continued strength in financial and investment use cases, powered by Perplexity Finance, also remains a genuine differentiator relative to general-purpose competitors.
Partnerships and Distribution: Steady Progress #
The major partnerships already in place, the Snapchat integration (targeting 2026), the three-year $750 million Microsoft Azure compute commitment, the US federal procurement approval, and the 300+ publisher revenue-sharing program, all remain in effect, with the Microsoft relationship now visibly deepening through the Computer-inside-365 integration described above. No major new partnership announcements have surfaced recently.
Perplexity AI Usage Stats July 2026: A Summary #
Perplexity’s July 2026 story is less about dramatic new numbers and more about strategic consolidation. Web traffic and mobile app share have both drifted slightly lower rather than recovering, and the company’s valuation ($22.6 billion) reflects continued, if not accelerating, investor confidence. The real news is product-side: Computer’s expansion into the full Microsoft 365 suite and the launch of Personal Computer represent a genuine broadening of where and how people can use Perplexity’s agentic tools, reinforcing the company’s bet that revenue per user, not raw market share, is the metric that will determine its long-term success.
The risks remain fully in play: ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude all have their own, better-funded agentic products, and Perplexity’s small share of raw traffic leaves less room for error than its larger competitors enjoy. But a company generating close to $500 million in annualised revenue from a fraction of a percent of AI web traffic is, by any conventional software metric, punching well above its market-share weight.
