Google AI Overviews With Way More External Links; Report

Peec AI data posted to X by Malte Landwehr shows Google's AI Overviews now include external links in over 25% of answers, up from close to 0%, a shift Landwehr described as Google having "massively increased the number of external links within AI Overview answers." The finding runs counter to the widely reported trend of Google linking out less often, and the author disclosed a small investment in Peec AI.

New data shows that Google is showing far more external links in its AI Overviews than before. A jump from close to 0% of AI Overviews containing external links to over 25% of AI Overviews containing external links.
