A nice quality-of-life improvement to Google AI Mode on Android lets you search your previous chat history.
Opening the navigation drawer from the Google app or AI Mode homepage reveals a new “Search threads” bar at the top. The settings gear next to it lets you access the full My Activity page.
Tapping the pill-shaped search field takes you to a fullscreen experience that’s fairly straightforward and lets you more easily continue old conversations. We’re seeing wide availability on iOS and Android today. Chat search was previously limited to the web.
Speaking of the iPhone app, Google has rolled out a redesign of the prompt box that was previewed at I/O 2026 in May. Instead of being docked to the bottom of your screen like a sheet, the new rounded rectangle floats.
The more substantial change there is how the ‘plus’ menu adds the ability to upload “Files” on mobile, which is already live on google.com/ai. These changes aren’t widely available on Android yet.
