Atlas incorporates the startup, retrieves an Employer Identification Number (EIN), initiates founder equity vesting, and files 83(b) tax elections, while Atlas remains the source of truth for application requirements, validation, and state; sensitive identity details, payment, document review, signatures, and submission stay in the Stripe Dashboard. The integration targets founders who are already configuring payments or preparing a launch and want to avoid switching context.", "body_md": "You've built the product, deployed it, and found the first people willing to pay for it. The next step is forming the company behind it.\n\nNow you can begin that process in the same tools you use to build your product. Start an Atlas application from an AI agent through [Stripe's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server](https://docs.stripe.com/mcp), or from your terminal with the Stripe Atlas commands available in the tools plugin. Atlas saves your progress, so you can move between your agent, terminal, and the Stripe Dashboard without starting over.\n\n## Bring company formation into your development workflow\n\nForming a company often begins in the middle of other technical work. You might be configuring payments, preparing a production launch, or getting ready to hire your first employee. Moving into a separate process means changing context just when momentum matters.\n\n[Stripe Atlas](https://stripe.com/atlas) sets up your startup so you can focus on building it. Atlas incorporates your startup, retrieves your Employer Identification Number (EIN), initiates founder equity vesting, and files 83(b) tax elections - so you can bank, fundraise, and accept payments with Stripe.\n\nThe Atlas integrations bring the start of company incorporation into the workflows developers already use:\n\n- Use MCP for a conversational workflow. An AI agent can explain the Atlas process, retrieve application requirements, collect company information, and relay validation from Atlas.\n- Use Stripe CLI for a terminal workflow. Work through structured prompts yourself, or let a coding agent invoke the command and relay each step.\n- Continue in the Dashboard. Provide sensitive identity information and complete payment, document review, signatures, and submission directly with Stripe.\n\nAtlas remains the source of truth in every interface. It determines the application requirements, validates the values you provide, and maintains the application state.\n\n## Start from an AI agent\n\nMCP gives AI applications a standard way to connect to external tools. When you connect an agent to Stripe's MCP server, the agent discovers the Stripe capabilities available to your account and current session.\n\nThe recommended way to connect an agent is with Stripe's agent plugin. The plugin configures the Stripe MCP server, installs Stripe's agent skills, and keeps them up to date:\n\n```\n> npm install -g @stripe/cli@latest\n> stripe agent setup\n> stripe plugin install tools\n```\n\nThe setup command detects supported agents installed on your computer and configures them for you. This works with agent development environments such as Claude Code and Cursor.\n\nYou can also [connect an agent to Stripe MCP](https://docs.stripe.com/mcp) directly. For example, to add Stripe MCP to Claude Code, run:\n\n```\n> claude mcp add --transport http stripe https://mcp.stripe.com/\n```\n\nThen run `/mcp` in Claude Code. Claude Code opens a browser where you can sign in to Stripe and authorize the connection. For Cursor, VS Code, and other MCP clients, follow the client-specific setup instructions or configure [https://mcp.stripe.com](https://mcp.stripe.com) as a remote MCP server.\n\nAfter you authorize the connection, you can describe the outcome you want instead of looking for a particular tool or command:\n\n```\n> I'm ready to incorporate my company with Stripe Atlas. There are two founders, and we plan to raise venture funding.\n```\n\nThe agent creates an Atlas application and identifies the Stripe account associated with it. It then asks you to authorize access to that account before continuing. Atlas uses the information saved in the application to suggest what to collect next. The order can vary based on what you've already provided, and you can return to an earlier answer or add another founder before completing the application.\n\n## Follow an application from prompt to incorporation\n\nSuppose you and a cofounder have built ElementraAI, a monitoring product for AI applications. The product is live, the first customers are using it, and you're preparing to raise funding. You decide to incorporate ElementraAI Labs while working in Claude Code.\n\n*Note: The following conversation is illustrative. The questions can change depending on the company structure and information already saved in the application.*\n\n```\n> I want to incorporate my new company, ElementraAI Labs. We build monitoring tools for AI applications. There are two founders, and we want to form a Delaware C corporation.\n\n# The agent first confirms the structure you've chosen:\n> Atlas supports Delaware C corporations and LLCs. You selected a Delaware C corporation. Do you want me to record that choice?\n\n# You confirm:\n> Yes, form a Delaware C corporation.\n\n# The agent can explain how Atlas represents your choice, but it shouldn't choose a structure based on your fundraising plans. Entity type, ownership, and tax treatment can have legal or financial consequences, so you remain responsible for those decisions.\n> Add the company details\n\n# The agent collects the information Atlas needs about the company:\n> What legal company name do you want to use?\n> What will your company do?\n> Does the company have a website?\n> What phone number and business address should the application use?\n\n# You answer:\n> The legal name is ElementraAI Labs, Inc. We build monitoring and debugging tools for teams developing AI applications. Our website is elementraai.example.\n\n# Atlas validates each value before saving it. If a website, phone number, or address isn't valid, the agent relays the validation and asks you to correct it. For example:\n> Atlas couldn’t validate elementraai.example. Enter the complete website URL, including https://.\n\n> https://elementraai.example\n\n# The agent sends the corrected value to Atlas and relays the validation result.\n\n# Next, the agent asks about the people forming the company:\n> What are the names and email addresses of the founders?\n> Will either founder serve on the board?\n\n> The founders are Maya Chen and Jordan Williams. Maya will be the primary representative, and both founders will serve on the board.\n\n# Atlas requires exactly one founder to be designated as the representative. If neither founder (or both founders) are selected, the agent explains what needs to change before the application can proceed.\n\n# For a C corporation, the agent asks for the founders' ownership and company roles:\n> What percentage of the company will each founder own?\n> What percentage do you want to reserve for the employee equity pool?\n> Who will serve as CEO and president? Who will serve as secretary?\n> What vesting schedule have the founders chosen?\n\n> Maya will own 45%, Jordan will own 45%, and we’ll reserve 10% for the employee equity pool. Maya will serve as CEO and president, and Jordan will serve as secretary. Both founders will use four year vesting schedules with a one-year cliff beginning on the incorporation date.\n```\n\nThe agent records the decisions you provide. It doesn't propose an ownership split or vesting schedule as the right choice for your company.\n\n### Review the application\n\nBefore sending an update to Atlas, the agent shows you the values included in the update and asks you to confirm them. You can review the company name, description, founder count, and other collected information, and correct any value before confirming.\n\nAfter you confirm the update, Atlas validates the values and returns the current application, including its company, founders, equity, status, and next action.\n\n## Continue securely with Stripe\n\nAfter the application passes validation, Atlas provides a link to continue in the Stripe Dashboard. Each founder provides sensitive identity information directly to Stripe, reviews the formation documents, pays, signs, and submits the application.\n\nThe agent has helped move you from an initial request to a validated Atlas application, but it hasn't made legal or tax decisions or submitted the company on your behalf. Your progress remains available in Atlas, so you can continue in the Dashboard or another authorized interface.\n\n## Start from the Stripe CLI\n\nIf you prefer to work in a terminal, install the [tools plugin for the Stripe CLI](https://docs.stripe.com/cli/tools):\n\n```\n> stripe plugin install tools\n```\n\nThen start an application:\n\n```\n> stripe tools search atlas\n> stripe tools create_atlas_application\n```\n\nThe plugin reuses your current Stripe CLI session when possible. If you aren't signed in, it prompts you to authenticate with Stripe login.\n\nThe command starts an Atlas flow that collects and validates company and founder information. You can respond to the prompts directly or ask a coding agent to run the command for you:\n\n```\n> Let’s form a company using Stripe Atlas. Use the Stripe tools plugin and search for Atlas commands.\n```\n\nStripe CLI handles authentication and communicates with Atlas while the agent provides a conversational layer around the terminal flow. The CLI supports Delaware C corporation and LLC applications, including applications with multiple founders.\n\nBecause MCP, Stripe CLI, and the Dashboard operate on the same Atlas application, you don't need to finish in the same interface you started with. For example, you can begin the ElementraAI Labs application with Claude Code, continue through Stripe CLI, and open the Dashboard when it's time to complete sensitive steps.\n\n## Continue after formation\n\nAfter you submit the application, Atlas sends a receipt and keeps you informed as formation progresses. Return to the Dashboard to check the application status, access documents, and complete post-formation steps.\n\nDepending on the company and founders, those steps can include [obtaining an EIN](https://support.stripe.com/questions/how-to-check-your-ein-status-with-the-irs) and [filing an 83(b) election](https://support.stripe.com/questions/atlas-filing-your-83%28b%29-election-using-auto-83%28b%29). Atlas provides the relevant workflow and documentation when those steps apply. Atlas also includes benefits that can help new companies get started, including $2,500 in Stripe product credits during the first year and access to more than $50,000 in partner offers.\n\n## Start where you build\n\nThe Atlas integrations for MCP and Stripe CLI connect the work of building a product with the work of forming the company behind it. Start with a plain language request to an agent or a command in your terminal, review the information before it reaches Atlas, and continue in the Stripe Dashboard for sensitive information, payment, signatures, and submission.", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/go-from-idea-to-company-without-leaving-your-development-workflow", "canonical_source": "https://stripe.dev/blog/go-from-idea-to-company-with-atlas", "published_at": "2026-10-19 00:00:00+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-10-19 16:44:48.244657+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["ai-agents", "agent-protocols", "ai-tools", "developer-tools"], "entities": ["Stripe", "Stripe Atlas", "Model Context Protocol", "Claude Code", "Cursor", "ElementraAI"], "also_reported_by": [], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/go-from-idea-to-company-without-leaving-your-development-workflow", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/go-from-idea-to-company-without-leaving-your-development-workflow.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/go-from-idea-to-company-without-leaving-your-development-workflow.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/go-from-idea-to-company-without-leaving-your-development-workflow.jsonld"}}
