At Galaxy Unpacked, Google announced a handful of Gemini updates for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8.
On the Android front, these new devices feature the upgraded “native migration experience” that allows you to “transfer even more data types from an iPhone wirelessly.” Part of Android 17, this includes your Google Account, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials, and eSIM. That is in addition to existing data types: photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendar. This is also rolling out to Pixel and coming to more Android devices after that.
When Gemini task automation launched in beta earlier this year, only six rideshare and delivery apps were supported across the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 series.
As part of Gemini Intelligence, task automation now supports over 40 apps across shopping, restaurant reservations, travel booking, and event tickets. This includes Etsy and Expedia. Additionally, the Flip 8 lets you access this daily life assistance on the Flex Window when you long-press the power button.
Meanwhile, the Gemini app can “now use advanced reasoning to understand what is on your screen and parse complex images as prompts.”
This gives you a powerful jumpstart — because sometimes, the easiest way to explain what you need is to show Gemini a shopping list or inspiration photo.
The recently renamed Gemini Notebook is now pre-installed on Samsung’s new foldables. Google promotes how “you can drag and drop photos, documents, whiteboard images, voice recordings, and more directly into a side-by-side workspace” on the Fold 8’s larger display.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8 come with six months of Google AI Pro.
On the wearables front, Gemini on the Galaxy Watch 9 can be triggered by just raising your wrist. This hotword-less activation matches the Pixel Watch 4.
Ahead of the fall launch, Samsung and Google shared more about their upcoming Android XR glasses. Gentle Monster and Warby Parker each showed another pair of frame designs.
