Following the Google Home Speaker launch, the Gemini for Home voice assistant is improving its Nest Hub and Smart Display experience with redesigned visual responses.
You’ll now see “beautiful visual cards” when asking for weather forecasts and general knowledge answers. In the case of weather, these “refreshed visual layouts” make use of Material 3 containers for hours and days.
- “What’s the weather forecast for this weekend?
Old vs. new
Compared to the voice-only experience, there have only been a handful of updates to the Gemini experience on Smart Displays. Recent updates have focused on showing more visual information, media browsing, and simpler feedback with thumbs up/down buttons.
Google also says to expect “more reliable sports updates” when asking for scores, schedules, and team standings. Specifically, you can expect “more accurate and up-to-date sports answers.”
- “When’s the next FIFA World Cup match?”
Continued Conversation is now more reliable and won’t ask for voice verification mid-conversation. You’ll notice these improvements with back-to-back commands and responses to follow-up questions.
- “What’s on my calendar today?”… then say, “And what about tomorrow?”
