- Gemini Live can now handle more than conversations, using Gemini Spark to turn natural voice requests into multi-step tasks.
- Google is adding productivity features to Live, including Daily Brief, hands-free Gmail management, and Personal Intelligence.

When Gemini Live was first introduced back in 2024, its distinction from the regular Gemini experience was clear. Gemini would handle complex text-based queries, while Live would be the conversational assistant for free-flowing conversations. Although that distinction remains for the most part, Google is giving Gemini Live a much bigger role in getting things done, which might just be the gateway to blurring the lines in the future.
According to Google, 63% of Gemini users talk to the assistant out loud. That stat was seemingly enough to convince the tech giant that Gemini Live shouldn’t just be a way to chat with Gemini. Instead, it should also be a tool to get things done. That’s why Gemini Live is now moving beyond simple conversation to handle complex tasks on your behalf.
The update brings features like Personal Intelligence, Daily Brief, Gemini Spark, hands-free inbox management, and more to Gemini Live.
With Spark now integrated into Gemini Live, you’ll be able to use natural spoken dialogue to trigger multi-step tasks for Gemini to tackle. The main thing here is that you don’t need to speak out what you’re looking to achieve in a perfectly-worded sentence. Simply “ramble your unstructured thoughts, ideas, and half-baked plans out loud,” and Gemini Live will organize your thoughts and feed them to Spark.
For example, a prompt like “Plan dinners for next week. Vegetarian and high in protein. Make sure to use that one recipe I recently saved and make me a grocery list of all ingredients needed,” would return a meal plan and a grocery list in a Google Doc. Elsewhere, Daily Brief, which is essentially an organized and personalized rundown of your daily priorities, can now be obtained via Gemini Live. This means that you’d be able to ask Gemini to brief you about your day in a conversational manner, and the tool will pull relevant information from Gmail, Calendar, and other sources. It would then present the information to you verbally, eliminating the need to read through it all yourself.
Gemini Live can now also access your Gmail inbox, unlocking use cases where you can ask the conversational assistant whether there are “any new emails?” or if there are any urgent messages from a specific sender or about a specific topic. You can also have the tool summarize, star, archive, or delete emails, all via voice.
Lastly, similar to the regular Gemini experience, Gemini Live, too, now has Personal Intelligence. This means the conversational tool will remember things you’ve chatted to it about, allowing it to connect the dots and draw on context from your conversations and Google apps like Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube.
To get started with the new Gemini Live features, ensure that Personal Intelligence’s memory is enabled and connected apps have been toggled on (Gemini app > Settings > Personal Intelligence). Gemini Live’s Spark capabilities are limited to those with a Google AI Pro or higher-tier subscription. Daily Brief capabilities are limited to those with a Google AI Plus or higher-tier subscription.
