Popular cross-platform testing tool Geekbench is back with a seventh edition, packed with improvements to better reflect how we use smartphones, computers, and tablets in 2026.
Geekbench is one of the go-to testing tools for those interested in performance statistics, and its results are a mainstay of PCMag's lab-tested reviews. Geekbench 7 introduces new and improved workloads to better measure the performance of modern CPUs and GPUs. It improves multi-core benchmark testing and ensures multi-threaded mode is used only when an application actually implements it in real life. Previous Geekbench tools used multi-threaded mode across all apps.
“The result is a multi-core score that’s a more accurate, more useful, and more relevant measure of how your device performs the work you actually do," says Primate Labs, the developer behind Geekbench 7.
GPU benchmarking has also been tweaked to include new tests for machine learning tasks and content-creation apps. For example, the test will now track faces and apply real-time filter effects to video, mirroring features found on social media services. Other tests include upscaling images with machine learning and blurring backgrounds for video-conference streams.
An additional API, CUDA, has also been added to Geekbench's GPU tests, joining OpenCL, Vulkan, and Metal. Primate Labs says it brought this new option in after users requested it.
Other improvements include new media-based workloads for CPU testing, such as encoding screen-sharing video, compressing music and other audio, and decoding video and audio while generating live captions using Whisper tech. Primate Labs also says it will now use larger datasets in typical tests such as image processing, file compression, and PDF viewing.
The app's user interface remains similar to Geekbench 7, and it continues to be free for personal use, with an option to subscribe to Geekbench 7 Pro for extra features like offline testing. You can download Geekbench 7 now on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows.
