FUTO Notes FUTO's Notes Android app, which uses AI in its development, is not fully 'vibecoded' and is licensed under a 'source first' model that permits non-commercial forking, according to a commenter on a post. The commenter praised the app's feel and the optional self-hosted end-to-end encrypted sync server, while clarifying that the license is not merely source-available. Everyone is using Claude and ChatGPT in their projects. The fact that LLMs are being used doesn’t mean it’s a vibecoded project. At this point AI and coding is non controversial. Poor engineering has existed before and will exist after AI. Yeah. I don’t believe FUTO would be taking on a project that’s 100% vibecoded. The Android app feels nice to use and i’m sure the e2ee sync server you can self host is good as well although I don’t personally self host the server since I just keep my notes locally on my phone. If they use AI to help them create good quality software that works then I’m happy. Its source available I realised that this was one of the first comments on this post and that I should have been quicker to reply to this although I did later down in the thread to someone else. But for anyone new to seeing this post the license is NOT source available . It is “source first” which basically means you can fork it as long as its not for commercial purposes. I’m sure that there is other things you could talk about contained in the license but that is the TLDR from what I understand for anyone new to this post.
