[Trinity Audio](//trinityaudio.ai)player ready...A San Mateo County man who [disappeared almost 10 months ago](https://www.mercurynews.com/2025/08/28/san-mateo-county-resident-convicted-child-molester-fugitive-missing/) while awaiting sentencing for child molestation has been captured in Arizona.

Carl Cacconie had last been seen in San Francisco in August 2025, three days before he was to be sentenced in South Lake Tahoe for lewd acts against an 11-year-old girl, said a news release Saturday from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the El Dorado County district attorney’s office.

Cacconie, then 51, was convicted on July 17, and, over the prosecutor’s objections, was allowed to remain out of custody on condition of a monitoring device on his ankle and $1 million bail. Before the trial, he had been living in San Mateo County, the district attorney’s office said, and he also had ties to the Fresno area.

The monitoring device stopped transmitting on Aug. 17, with its last verified position at a home in San Francisco’s Sunset District. After two days, a probation officer contacted Cacconie, who reportedly said the device had lost power and he was charging it. That was the last official contact with him.

On Aug. 25, the day he was to be sentenced, his family said that he was missing and had left behind his phone, wallet and a suicide note.

Last month, a federal arrest warrant was issued to aid efforts to find him. An investigation involving the FBI tracked him to Scottsdale, Arizona, and he was arrested there without incident on Saturday morning, the agencies said.

Cacconie will be extradited to California, the district attorney said. He faces a prison sentence of 18 years for the molestation, which took place in 2014 and 2015. The jury in his trial also heard testimony from another witness who described being molested by Cacconie in the early 2000s.

It was not stated if he’ll face additional charges related to his disappearance.
