{"slug": "from-a-developer-soon-to-retire", "title": "From a developer soon to retire", "summary": "A developer identifying as soon to retire defended Zig's methodical development pace in a Ziggit forum post, pointing to a 2026 roadmap in the site's News category and arguing that adding more people and money to a project makes it bigger before it makes it faster. The poster cited a separate Ziggit thread on what to remove from the language as evidence the community prefers small strong features over many weak and confusing additions, and questioned why anyone satisfied with Zig would need a 1.0 release. The post asks whether a 1.0 badge is needed to convince teams to accept the language and whether LLM-generated code is more in-dev and unstable than Zig itself.", "body_md": "What is it too late for? What’s the rush? And don’t get me wrong I’d love a Zig 1.0, but I appreciate how methodical Zig, as I am writing it and as it is being developed.\n\nThere is a [2026 roadmap](https://ziggit.dev/t/zig-roadmap-2026/10750) in the [News](https://ziggit.dev/c/news/8) category\n\nIn games it’s said that adding more people/money to a project makes it *bigger* before it makes it faster. A bigger programming language might have a better/fleshed-out std library, maybe it has superfluous and confusing language features. There’s another popular thread debating what to remove from the language[1](https://ziggit.dev/t/what-should-we-remove-from-zig/17518), so I think it’s generally agreed among this community we want small strong features over many weak and confusing additions.\n\nIf you are already satisfied- and even prefer Zig with LLM-generated code, why do you need Zig to be 1.0? Do you need a 1.0 badge to convince your team to accept the language? Wouldn’t this new LLM stuff be more in-dev and unstable than Zig, especially if we’re talking about price hikes? What is it exactly you would want changed from the language?", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/from-a-developer-soon-to-retire", "canonical_source": "https://ziggit.dev/t/from-a-developer-soon-to-retire/17643#post_4", "published_at": "2026-09-18 14:30:03+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-09-18 14:54:36.021621+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["developer-tools"], "entities": ["Zig", "Ziggit"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/from-a-developer-soon-to-retire", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/from-a-developer-soon-to-retire.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/from-a-developer-soon-to-retire.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/from-a-developer-soon-to-retire.jsonld"}}
