Four desktops as one brain: Lenovo turns ThinkCentre into an AI cluster Lenovo unveiled the ThinkCentre X Ultra desktop at IFA 2026 in Berlin, which can link up to four systems into a single AI cluster with up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 55 TOPS NPU, starting at 3,100 euros in November. The company also introduced the ThinkCentre M75s Gen 6 and M75q Gen 6 desktops, ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 and ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 laptops, and new ThinkShield security features, citing IDC research that 96 percent of organizations plan to increase AI investment this year. In one fell swoop, we are introduced to new ThinkCentre desktops, two ThinkBooks, four ThinkVision monitors, and new ThinkShield security features. The common thread is hybrid AI: running workloads where they perform best, whether on the device or in the cloud. Lenovo supports this with a figure from its own CIO Playbook 2026, based on IDC research: 96 percent of organizations intend to invest more in AI this year. Inside a 1.6-liter chassis, Lenovo packs an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 with up to 128 GB LPDDR5X at 8,533 MHz across four channels. Up to 96 GB of that memory pool can be allocated to the integrated Radeon 8065S GPU. The NPU achieves up to 55 TOPS. The power of the ThinkCentre X Ultra is not limited to what is inside a single box. The ‘cluster-ready’ architecture allows up to four systems to be linked into a single platform, bundling computing and memory capacity for larger models, longer context windows, and multi-agent workflows. Lenovo brings the computing power of a full rack to a desktop that fits on or under your desk. The desktop runs on both Windows and Linux. There is no shortage of connectivity: two Thunderbolt 4 ports, DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR10, HDMI 2.1 FRL, 10-gigabit Ethernet, and a punch-out port that can be configured as VGA, serial, or an additional 10GbE port. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 are included as standard. Below that, Lenovo is launching two more traditional machines. The ThinkCentre M75s Gen 6 is a small form factor featuring up to a Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450G, 50 TOPS, DDR5 UDIMM up to 64 GB, a PCIe x16 Gen 4 slot, and an optional Radeon RX 6400 with 8 GB. The M75q Gen 6 weighs just 1.8 kilograms and fits behind a monitor or in a desk drawer, with up to 64 GB SODIMM memory and the ability to drive up to four screens simultaneously. Expected starting prices are 1,059 and 999 euros incl. VAT respectively, both starting in October 2026. Prices may vary by market and configuration. The ThinkCentre X Ultra will start at 3,100 euros incl. VAT and is expected in stores from November. ThinkBooks with Qualcomm and Intel While AMD shines in the ThinkCentre range, Lenovo also gives Intel and Qualcomm their moment. The ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 is the AI machine, running on a Snapdragon X2 Plus with 80 TOPS to earn the Copilot+ label, up to 32 GB LPDDR5x and 1 TB storage, a 50 Wh battery, and a claim of up to 26 hours of local video playback. On paper, the screen appears to be the weak point: a 14-inch panel with 60 Hz, 400 nits, and 45 percent NTSC color coverage are specifications that do not match the internal hardware. Computing power seems to take precedence over image quality for this device. The expected starting price for the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 is 1,099 euros incl. VAT and it will be available from October. The ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 takes the opposite profile: slightly lighter hardware, but a superior screen. You can choose between a 14-inch 2.8K OLED screen at 120 Hz, 500 nits, and full DCI-P3 coverage. Those who prefer LCD get a WUXGA panel at 120 Hz with 400 nits and optional touch. It features an Intel Core 7 Series 3 processor with up to 32 GB LPDDR5x and an SSD slot providing up to 2 TB of storage. Not Panther Lake, but Wildcat Lake, which we have mentioned more frequently during laptops announced at IFA https://itdaily.com/news/workplace/dell-14s/ . Intel is receiving slightly less attention from PC manufacturers during IFA than in previous launch cycles. With blue and pink color options alongside gray and white, Lenovo is trying to bring some color to its business range. The expected starting price for the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 is 1,079 euros incl. VAT starting in September 2026. ThinkVision Four new ThinkVision screens complete the desk setup. According to Lenovo, the P34WD-4v is the world’s first Microsoft-certified Thunderbolt VoIP monitor: 34 inches with 3,440 x 1,440 pixels in 21:9, IPS, 300 nits, 98 percent DCI-P3, and a variable refresh rate from 24 to 120 Hz. A 5-megapixel camera with AI sensors automatically frames, detects multiple participants, adjusts volume remotely, and manages login via Windows Hello. Thunderbolt 4 docking with daisy chaining and compatibility with Lenovo PCs keep the desk tidy. It is the successor to the P34WD-40, which we tested in October https://itdaily.be/reviews/workplace/lenovo-thinkvision-p34wd-40-getest/ and described then as a very complete package for the average office worker, with the caveat that those working professionally with images would be better off with 4K OLED. That group will be fully satisfied with the P27UL-40. This is Lenovo’s first 27-inch UHD monitor with an InkJet Printing OLED panel and Thunderbolt docking for business environments. This imaging technology improves the readability of text on the screen and leads to more accurate and vivid color reproduction across the board, visible even to the naked eye. Further display specifications include 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, 99 percent DCI-P3, 100 percent sRGB, DisplayHDR True Black 500, and an RGB subpixel layout that reduces color fringing around text. Blue light can be reduced via software, and automatic panel maintenance is designed to protect image quality over the long term without manual refreshes. For IT administrators, Lenovo is introducing the Display Fleet Manager software, which allows connected monitors to be managed remotely. The new quartet of screens is completed by the T32UD-4v 31.5-inch UHD, 799 euros and T34WD-4v 34-inch ultrawide, 599 euros : two models with Teams certification, Windows Hello, and USB-C docking with 100-watt Power Delivery. All four are TCO Certified 10 and use up to 95 percent recycled material. Expected starting prices for the monitors range between 599 and 1,099 euros, with delivery dates spanning from December 2026 to February 2027. Extra ThinkShield security Finally, Lenovo is focusing on the security of the ThinkShield ecosystem https://itdaily.com/blogs/security/lenovo-thinkshield/ , which is moving into new territory with these additions. ThinkShield TraceLock keeps track of ThinkPads operating far outside the office network, even when the device is switched off or disconnected. IT can remotely locate, wake, lock, or wipe a lost or stolen device. The feature works on selected ThinkPad X1, X, and T models and requires an additional software bundle. Additionally, Prompt Security from SentinelOne will be available via ThinkShield. The platform is designed to give organizations real-time visibility into AI activity, make that usage manageable, and protect sensitive data against what Lenovo calls emerging AI risks.
