What the app can do #
Ford says the assistant can draw on an owner’s manual and live vehicle telemetry. Customers can ask practical questions about a particular vehicle, such as whether it can tow a trailer or how much fuel may be needed for a trip. They can also upload a photo of cargo and ask whether it will fit in a truck bed. [1]
Ford’s public announcement does not identify the large-language-model provider or model. The company previously described the assistant as chatbot-agnostic, meaning it is designed to work with multiple models rather than depend on one named supplier. [2]
Data, limits and timing #
Ford’s privacy notice says information shared with an AI chatbot may be processed, stored or used under the company’s privacy notice and applicable product terms. The notice covers connected-vehicle information such as fuel and fluid levels, tire pressure, diagnostics, vehicle location and voice data. [3]
Ford has not published product-specific accuracy limits or safety guardrails for the app assistant. Its broader connected-vehicle guidance says customers should review privacy controls and that vehicle systems use network separation, encryption and signed software updates. [4]
The app is the first stage. Ford plans to bring a native assistant into Ford and Lincoln vehicles in 2027. The company has not said whether that in-vehicle version will remain free. [1]
