No. Floatboat DeepSeek Agent is an independent desktop client built by Floatboat on top of the DeepSeek API. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by DeepSeek. We ship it because the official DeepSeek app is chat-only — it can't touch your local files, browser, or apps.
Do I Need a DeepSeek API Key, VPN, or Chinese Phone Number? #
No API key, VPN, or Chinese phone number is required. Floatboat routes DeepSeek through its own gateway. Your website account manages access, downloads, subscription and credits; once the desktop app is installed, DeepSeek is ready to work.
Does It Support DeepSeek Function Calling and Tool Calls? #
Yes. Every tool the agent uses — file reader, browser, terminal, calendar and desktop app control — is wired through DeepSeek's native Function Calling / Tool Calls interface. You do not write JSON-schema definitions or an agent loop yourself; Floatboat ships the plan → act → observe loop out of the box.
Is Floatboat an OpenAI-Compatible DeepSeek Agent? #
Under the hood, yes — DeepSeek's OpenAI-compatible endpoint is what Floatboat calls, so capabilities DeepSeek supports in that specification, including tool calls, streaming and JSON mode, are available to the agent. You do not need to configure a base URL, API key or SDK.
Does It Support Reusable Skills? #
Yes. Floatboat packages repeatable instructions, tools and working standards as reusable Skills. Install an existing Skill or capture a workflow you have already proved, then let the agent apply it again without rebuilding the process from scratch.
What About DeepSeek V4 / V4 Flash / V4 Pro? #
When DeepSeek promotes V4, Flash and Pro to general availability, Floatboat will route to them alongside the currently available models and surface them in the model picker. No workflow or configuration change will be required on your side.
