[Trinity Audio](//trinityaudio.ai)player ready...SAN JOSE – Two halls at San Jose State University were evacuated and a nearby street was closed Monday evening while police worked to take domestic violence suspect into custody.

Officers went to an apartment in the 200 block of South Fourth Street around 6:25 p.m. to investigate a family disturbance, according to a spokesperson for the San Jose Police Department. They arrived to find a person who confirmed she had been assaulted.

The spokesperson said police identified the suspect and determined he had several outstanding warrants.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to exit, according to the spokesperson. Special operations units, including negotiators, were called to the scene.

Officers took the suspect into custody shortly after 8:30 p.m., the spokesperson said.

During the incident, South Fourth Street was closed from East San Fernando Street to San Carlos Street. Washington Square Hall and Yoshihiro Uchida Hall at SJSU were also evacuated.
