Fabless optics giant Marvell to boost India efforts with $250M investment Marvell Technology, the fabless semiconductor firm, plans to invest $250 million in India to expand its sites in Bangalore and Hyderabad and double its headcount over three years, focusing on AI, cloud, and data infrastructure. The investment aims to strengthen its global innovation network and India's semiconductor ecosystem, as announced by VP Navin Bishnoi. Marvell Technology, the fabless semiconductor firm christened the “next trillion-dollar company https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/nvidia-ceo-says-ai-networking-could-make-marvell-the-next-trillion-dollar-company/ ” by Jensen Huang, is expanding in India with plans to invest $250 million. The effort will see Marvell build out its existing sites in Bangalore and Hyderabad with a view to doubling its headcount in the country over the next three years. The chip and optics designer said its expansion will bolster its global innovation network across areas like design and development for offerings for AI, cloud, and data infrastructure applications. “India has become a strategic hub of engineering excellence for Marvell, playing a critical role in advancing the infrastructure technologies that power the world’s leading hyperscalers and cloud providers,” said Navin Bishnoi, VP and India country manager at Marvell. “As we celebrate 20 years in India, we remain committed to expanding R&D investments, strengthening the country’s semiconductor ecosystem and developing the next generation of technology talent.” Marvell first entered the Indian market in 2006 by opening up shop in Bangalore. The site, which recently saw a new wing open, is now the company’s second-largest R&D organization worldwide. Expansions since then to Pune and Hyderabad have helped efforts developing process technologies, high-speed analog IP, and subsystem designs, with the India offices playing a “leading role” in using AI tools to boost engineering efforts. Marvell said its efforts in India have seen it give back, having launched a scholarship for technical and engineering merit MSTEM . Launched earlier this year, it provides students pursuing degrees in electronics, electrical engineering, and computer science with financial support and industry experience, and has already attracted more than 7,000 applicants. “We are grateful to our customers, partners, government collaborators, academic institutions and especially our exceptional team, whose innovation, expertise and dedication have been instrumental to the growth and success of Marvell in India,” Bishnoi added. The company’s India expansion comes as it ramps up development efforts. Nvidia’s CEO praise was the icing on the cake for a company on the up. Marvell was recently crowned by Gartner https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/nvidia-crowned-ai-networkings-top-dog-but-its-throne-isnt-quite-safe/ as the company to beat for AI data center optical connectivity, with its efforts bolstered further following acquisitions of silicon photonics startups Polariton Technologies https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/marvell-acquires-silicon-photonics-device-startup-polariton-technologies-to-advance-optical-scaling/ and Celestial AI https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/marvell-completes-325b-acquisition-of-photonic-startup-celestial-ai/ , the latter of which it paid $3.25 billion for. It also recently poached Jay Kirkland https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/marvell-boosts-custom-silicon-push-with-amd-engineering-lead-hire/ , AMD’s EPYC and Instinct platform engineering lead, as Marvell pushes further into custom specialized processing units XPUs to complement its optical interconnect offerings.
