GPT-6.1 Sol aims to be a more budget-friendly option, with OpenAI saying it has Astra-level intelligence at a fifth of the price. That matters for enterprise or business users, who may rack up a huge bill by using the latest, most compute-intensive AI model.\n\nMore from CNET\n\nYou’ll also be able to get your answers from ChatGPT Work and Codex even quicker with a brand-new “ultrafast” mode. OpenAI says this speedy mode gives you results in its business-oriented work experiences up to eight times as fast in Codex. Ultrafast is available with Astra, with plans to bring it to GPT-6.1 Sol soon.\n\nOpenAI is also introducing a new way to create documents collaboratively — with your dots, other people and their dots. In the keynote demo, CEO Sam Altman said that a lot of productivity software isn’t built to work with AI agents. Though, admittedly, a lot of them have added their own AI agent tech to the program in recent years, including Google. Using the new ChatGPT Space, your team and their agents can create docs in a format that looks similar to Google Docs. Presentations are coming soon, Altman said.\n\nYou can now save your coding projects in Codex entirely to the cloud. Previously, you had to save it to your device, which meant occasionally leaving your laptop lid cracked to keep the program running during your non-working hours.\n\n## Subscription changes\n\nBut there’s bad news for folks on the $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro subscription. OpenAI is slashing your usage by half. Previously, premium Pro subscribers had 20 times as much usage as the next plan down, the $20-per-month Plus plan. Now, Pro subscribers will still be paying $200 a month, but for only 10 times as much usage as a Plus subscriber.\n\nTo help potentially ease the blow, OpenAI is giving a one-time credit to help Pro subscribers adjust to the new plan, but there’s no info on how useful that credit may be. You’ll keep your current limits during the transition, but there’s no word on when that switch will happen.\n\nIf you’re mad about that, I only have worse news. OpenAI is introducing a new subscription tier, called Pro 500, that’s $500 per month for its highest usage limits and access to the new ultrafast mode. Now you can decide whether to scale down your AI activity or to cough up more than double what you’re currently paying.
