And it might kick quite a bit of ass. The company says it’s fully autonomous, without the need for buried guide wires or satellite connectivity. It navigates with computer vision via built-in cameras, can handle up to 80% slopes, and has a dual-blade mowing deck. The S2 Max features a 48 TOPS processor for onboard local AI which, if it’s implemented well, could make for some very smart navigation, à la the [Matic robot vacuum](https://gizmodo.com/the-matic-robot-vacuum-charms-and-sucks-in-a-good-way-2000638109). It’s also capable of handling up to 3.7 acres, Eufy says.\n\nUntil very recently, when it came to handling law edges, the best robotic mowers had to offer was automatically lowering mowing decks that could also slide sideways to attempt to get closer to walls and other lawn obstacles. This is true of mowers like the [Segway Navimow X430](https://gizmodo.com/segway-navimow-x430-review-a-featureful-mow-bot-2000761324) or the [Dreame A3 AWD Pro](https://gizmodo.com/dreame-a3-awd-pro-review-a-compelling-case-for-lidar-robomowers-2000799478). It’s a nice but imperfect solution; no matter how close they can get with their horizontal blades, they’ll never save you from going back with a string trimmer to clean up at the end of a mow if you really want a tidy lawn.\n\nEufy isn’t actually the first company to tackle edge mowing with a separate module. Ecovacs sells a model called the [Goat A3000 LiDAR Pro](https://www.ecovacs.com/us/shop/goat-robotic-lawn-mower/goat-a3000-lidar-pro?cjdata=MXxOfDB8WXww&CJEVENT=deddf985a0b311f182af03b60a82b82c#features), a LiDAR-based robomower with a built-in string trimmer that can get “as close as nearly 0mm to edges,” something Ecovacs says “effortlessly delivers a perfectly finished lawn with clean, crisp edges.” It looks promising, but the Goat A3000 is a smaller mower that can’t handle slopes as steep as the S2 Max apparently can.\n\nUnfortunately, the S2 Max has no planned U.S. release for now. Eufy would need to get special regulatory approval from the U.S. government in the wake of the FCC’s ham-fisted ban on foreign-made robotic devices, [including robot vacuums and lawnmowers](https://gizmodo.com/trumps-robot-vacuum-ban-sucks-for-everyone-2000792601), earlier this summer. If it does arrive on our shores, expect to pay good money: Eufy is charging 3,999 euro for the device when it releases in May 2027.\n\nEufy did manage to get one product out before the ban, which doesn’t retroactively apply to products already approved for release in the U.S., despite the FCC’s claim that the prohibition was issued for security reasons. On September 25, Eufy will release the Robot Vacuum Omni E35, a multifunction robovac with a self-cleaning dock.\n\nEufy claims that the Omni E35 is now one of the only robot vacuums to ever receive the Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, which has considered robot vacuums under its vacuum cleaner category [since ](https://www.prweb.com/releases/smart-cleaning-just-got-healthier-as-allergy-standards-ltd-asl-is-excited-to-announce-a-new-robotic-vacuum-cleaner-standard-833129032.html)2022 but doesn’t currently list any that meet it. The [AAFA says its standard](https://asthmaandallergyfriendly.com/USA/certified_products/products_categories/vacuum-cleaners/) lets robot vacuum makers “demonstrate that their products meet rigorous allergen removal performance criteria.”\n\nThe Omni E35 will launch at $1,100, with pre-sales beginning on September 4 at Eufy’s website.\n\n*Gizmodo is on the ground in Berlin all week bringing you everything you need to know about the tech unveiled at IFA 2026.
